A discovery of witches

Year of release : 2018

Run time : 45 minutes, 8 episodes

Genre : Fantasy / Tv Series / Mini Series

Cast : Teresa Palmer, Matthew Goode

The series are based on the All Souls book trilogy by Deborah Harkness, and the title is inspired by the first book of the series, released in 2011.

Episode 1

The series start with a narration,as the leading male contemplates immortality. That narration bleeds through every episode,as it opens with a part of it.

Diana is a witch who never used her powers.

Matthew is a 1500 year old vampire.

As a historian,Diana asks to see the Ashmole manuscript,a book nobody has seen for many years, and she gets to read it. This fact brings her the attention of many witches and vampires, but mostly witches.

Episode 2

Matthew leaves because he's craving Diana.

Gillian, her mousy looking friend,is trying to make her get the book out for a rich vampire,Knox.

PS : I can't stand her mousy looking friend who also has this mouse-like presence/attitude.

Episode 3

Knox tries to force Diana using magic,to get the book,as he wants to "undo" vampires.

The Shadow Prince who lived between sunset and moon rise,Matthew, feels protective of Diana,so they end up having dinner together . Diana is trying to start something,Matthew leaves.

Gillian, her mousy friend has all the qualities of what mousy means, can't stand her,is still pushing it.

Episode 4

Matthew's family owns a castle. His brother is a member of the congregation, the others include speakers for witches and demons.

Episode 5

Matthew's mother takes her hunting, although she didn't ask,to see how vampires are feeding.

She then tells her to stay away from her because her scent can get mixed up with the prey's and she can kill her ! Then why the f@k did you take her with you?!

The most useless scene,I don't care how you eat,you beast!

So vampires hunt animals to eat! Shocker!! Quelle horreur !People don't do that,EVER! Quoting the song, you're so dumb,di da da!

His mother is giving her exposition about his life and is annoying - he will always love Blanca(who died to a pandemic),his wife who gave him a son 1500 years ago,ok? Because she gave him a son, something she can never do,because she can't have kids with a vampire.

And..,he never mated in 1500 years, which to his b!tch mother means he loves his dead wife.

Make it make sense! He tried to kill himself after their death, and, with a broken body, his mother told him she could take his pain away by turning him into a vampire! The f@k?! You wanted to kill yourself so the best solution is living forever?! These two don't go together,my man!

This was the worst episode of the season to me.

The s*x scene came and gone..I guess is because they practice bundling..?!

Also,if he's a vampire, why does he have scars after he became a vampire? Don't they heal instantly once they drink enough blood?

Episode 6

Satu,a powerful witch who works with Knox, kidnapped and tortures Diana, asking her to tell her her secrets! Who the f@k are you to me,to tell you anything?! These people! Rolling my eyes !

Episode 7

Matthew and Diana leave for Madison. They learn her parents spell bounded her,so she can't use her powers, unless she is in danger.

Witches are spellbound into not using their powers only if they are crazy.

This ties in with the fact that for the first few episodes she has nightmares about being caught in a spiderweb.

Episode 8

Juliette, who was created to crave Matthew (in the first episode she appears we see her craving a man just because his name is Matthew) comes after Matthew and tries to kill him.

In order to save him,Diana conjures the Mother and promises anything if she will save him.

Matthew is asking Diana if they could hide in time as the congregation is coming after them(her father was a time traveler and she might have inherited his powers).

The movie started out promising but as it progressed it started to bore me. I liked the fact that unlike other series they don't drag on the love story(usually in this kind of series they start dating someone else or are in a love triangle- which I'm happy they didn't do with Juliette- ,and they get together at the end,and I'm glad they avoided that ),they actually make it happen, but it felt like something was missing.

I really loved the series up until episode 5,I couldn't wait to see what happens next, but I hated episode 5,and after, didn't care much about it.

In these series vampires are stronger than demons, ridiculously enough.

Species don't interbreed, they are not allowed to "mate".

The vampires "sire" meaning turn other people into vampires.

When a vampire wants someone or just want to drink their blood,I'm not sure,it's called "crave".

The vampires walk in the sun,as it doesn't harm them, and can also eat and drink.

Also,the vampires don't have fangs.

The demons are like people, and they can have babies...one of them keeps on dreaming about Diana, and they think she is their saviour..

I didn't like the s*x scenes (for those interested there's no nudity involved ),it all revolves around her,her pleasure,he's not there .I find them very bad, some of the worst s*x scenes I've ever watched,it's like they start doing the nasty and then give up.

The actors were all good.

The architecture is beautiful, the castles are breathtaking, her aunts' house around Halloween.

The original soundtrack was good,I didn't like the artists' songs that much.

Needless to say I won't be watching the next seasons,as it has at least one more.

Rating : Coulda woulda shoulda !
