Written, produced and directed by Luc Besson, Anna,is the story of a Russian woman, who, trying to escape her drug addiction,is enlisting in the Russian Navy.

Luc Besson seems to have a thing for making movies with leading ladies, entitled, simple,by the leading woman's name, Lucy,Anna..but back to the Anna movie review.

Pretty soon, and right after her no good boyfriend ( played by one of my absolute favorites Russian actors Aleksandr Petrov ) goes on a crazy drug infused rampage through the city of Moscow ( he and his friends rob a man and then kill some police officers), Anna is visited by a KGB officer, offering her a job, telling her in 5 years she'll be free.

Five years later,Anna is still working for the KGB,as a spy,and they don't seem to be eager to let her go,ever.

Anna's life seems pretty sad,as she doesn't have real friends or loved ones,as no one knows her.

She has a girlfriend which she dates as a shield, whom she doesn't love, and at the same time dates her superior played by Luke Evans.

She starts dating,at the same time, Cillian Murphy's character, and it seems she knows who is into her,so she gives them what they want to either get something out of them along the line,or to "keep her enemies closer than the friends".

It seems that the men in her life are using her, they don't really care for her, about what she wants ( she wants out)-the American, played by Cillian Murphy seems to care for her a bit - all they care about is their agenda, their job, their countries, which are more important than their love life,or people. They lead her on,so they could use her for whatever they need.

The only one who truly loves her is the one she doesn't care about, the girlfriend.

The acting was fine,Helen Mirren,to me was the best, she had her quirks which made her fun to watch.

I loved the action scenes,my favorite being the one in the restaurant, when Helen Mirren's character tests Anna's skills.

What I didn't like, was the fact that after each plot twist we are shown what happened 3 months earlier, one year earlier, and so on. It happens quite a lot.

To me,this movie was a remake of La femme Nikita, with better plot and action scenes.

Anna is streaming on Netflix, ROW8, Prime Video, Vudu Movie & TV Store, Apple TV, VUDU, Redbox, FlixFling on your Roku device,Hulu and HBO Max.

Rating : Worth a watch !
