The movie was written by Stephen Zotnowski, and is a remake of the 2005 German movie Barfuss (directed by actor Till Schweiger, who also plays the lead), which was based on Stephen Zotnowski's original story and screenplay, Barefoot!
Jay Wheeler might have a gambling problem, and he owes a lot of money to a loan shark. He loves and leaves the ladies, and ends up on probation after fighting with the loan shark who found out Jay's family is very rich.
Due to his probation, he now has to work as a janitor at a psychiatric hospital.
Daisy is admitted to the hospital after her mother died, as they think she hears voices.
One night, Jay hears another janitor lying to Daisy he's a doctor, while trying to r@pe her, so he beats him up.
Seeing Jay leave, Daisy takes her belongings and follows him. Barefeet, as she always stayed inside the house, without shoes on.
Not knowing what to do with her, afraid to leave her alone in the streets, he takes her with him. Not finding a date for his brother's wedding (he asked all the girls he knew who worked at the strip club), Jay takes her with him, and dresses her in one of his stripper friend's clothes.
At his parents' incredible home (I loved their house!), he asks his parents for the money he owes the loan shark, lying to them he is investing in a starter company. His father is onto him, and doesn't want to give him the money.
Jay never spent much time with a woman, and he starts to catch feelings for Daisy who depends on him, and is also very honest about everything.
I personally enjoyed the movie, it even made me laugh a few times, due to Daisy's innocent lines.
The actors were good, especially Evan Rachel Wood, who had to play an innocent woman, who might seem slow, but she's only like that because she's never been outside the house, never had any friends, and thought the lies her mother told her about the world, to keep her with her, were the truth.
Scott Speedman looked great in this movie, why didn't they give him this look in Underworld?
The soundtrack was fine, pretty much what you'd expect from such a movie.
The movie received negative reviews, and grossed 15.000 dollars at the box office, against a budget of 7.4 million!
