A very infectious virus has been wrecking havoc through the world population. Two brothers , Brian and Danny, Brian's girlfriend, Bobby, and Danny's friend, Kate, are driving on back roads, away from the interstate, trying to get to the seaside where the brothers' family have a vacation home .

They stop as a car is parked in the middle of the road, so they can't cross. The man tells them he is out of gas, asking for some, in return for supplies. Bobby sees his daughter is infected, so they drive in reverse, trying to get away from them, as the man hits their car, trying to break the window, with the wrench.

Their car gets damaged when Brian drives around the man's car, on the side of the road, and they have to go back to the man asking for gas, to take his car.

The man asks them to take him and his daughter to a high school in a town near by, which was turned into a hospital. They put the man and his infected daughter in the back of the trunk, separating their side of the car with a plastic shield, disinfecting the rest of the car.

At the center, they find out they have no serum to save the kid, and the last doctor there is preparing a cocktail to k1ll himself and the kids he has in his care (as they are all infected).

Bobbi stays with the man's little daughter, and as the daughter coughs unable to breathe, she tries to help by taking her mask off, trying to give her the oxygen tank, but the little girl coughs blood on her face and arm. Bobby cleans herself and hides the traces of blood off her jacket.

As the man's daughter needs to go to the bathroom, the 4 friends drive off, and leave them there.

Reaching a hotel, and having fun breaking the windows playing golf (so unimpressed), they are found by the ones who live there and come back from their supply run. They catch them, trying to keep the women. They ask them to strip, and they find out Bobby is infected. So they let them go.

Seeing that, Kate militates for her to be left behind. Brian, although he supposedly loves her, leaves her behind, without hesitation!

This used to be one of my favorite movies, because I used to think it had an original idea when it came to viruses. The virus is airborne, one can get infected by breathing the same air. Once infected, the people get bruises and rashes on themselves, finding it hard to breathe, spitting blood, becoming a living corpse, but not a zombie.

The movie is about how in the fight for survival, people lose their humanity. The leading characters are slowly becoming unlikeable as the movie unfolds.

Brian seems to be in love with Bobby until he finds out she's infected and discards her like nothing. Kate becomes unlikeable from that moment on, because she seems to only care about herself and her survival.Danny, although he is supposed to care about others, is afraid of getting infected so he doesn't have a problem with throwing her out of the fold. SPOILER In the end, he k1lls his own brother, to survive!

SPOILER Brian gets infected too, but doesn't want to be left behind, the way he left Bobby, quite the opposite, he is doing his best to stay with them, and still be in charge. He k1lls 2 women to take their car when theirs doesn't work anymore.

The only ones who were still decent humans were the father with his kid, as he was trying to save her and didn't leave her behind, and he was not afraid of her getting him infected; and Bobby, who, when worried she was infected she stayed away from Brian, afraid she might infect him .

The acting was good, the best being Chris Pine. He has some scenes, in which you can see his range as an actor.

The soundtrack was good.

The visual effects, consisting of make-up, were good.

The movie received positive reviews, and grossed 5.8 million dollars at the box office.

The movie was filmed in 2006, and finally released in 2009, after Chris Pine got famous with Star Trek!

Rating : Worth a watch !
