The movie is based on the book "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham.

The Kranks take their daughter to the airport the first Sunday after Thanksgiving,as she is working in Peru in the Peace Corps. It's their first Christmas without her,and the father decides to skip Christmas and go on a vacation. This leads to a series of events regarding the neighbors who demand certain decorations be put up,the Christmas tree seller, the gift card shop, the police - as they were buying their annual calendar, and even the priest !

The day before Christmas their daughter calls to tell them she is coming to see them, with her fiance (a man she's been dating for 6 weeks! but they don't seem to have a problem with it), and they plan to decorate the house, shop and cook,to host their annual party, without telling her of their plans,as one would normally do!(eye roll)

There were some scenes which were ridiculous like the rain scene, the wife was just annoying, sending him in the pouring rain, and the cars driving by,getting him wet, then the rooftop falling, the water on it pouring on top of him..it was too much!

Then the neighbors who acted like it was their business what this couple did in their life, demanding them to decorate the house for Christmas, harassing them..it was really annoying.

The same thing with preparing for Christmas last minute, they probably thought it would be funny, but everything was just ridiculous and annoying (to me).

Mrs Krank goes shopping and comes back with the smallest bags of groceries! For a party!!!

The movie comes into its own once the daughter announces she's coming back for Christmas on Christmas Eve's day,and the neighbors all land a helping hand, helping them cook, decorate the house, and even get her and her fiance from the airport.

The acting was fine.

The soundtrack was Ok.

Rating : Could have been a contender !
