Iris wakes up from dreaming about how she met her boyfriend. Her boyfriend, Josh, tells her to wake up, and they go to an isolated lakehouse, to meet his friends, about whom Iris says they don't like her.

It's true, they don't. Especially Kat, who says she thinks Iris could replace her.

The owner of the house, Sergey, hits on Iris the next day, as she's alone by the lake, saying his girlfriend, Kat, gave him permission.

 

Iris comes back into the house, all bloody, telling the ones inside she k1lled Sergey as he was forcing himself on her. Josh tells her to go to sleep, and they tie her up. He wakes her up, and tells her she is a companion robot, who's feelings and intelligence he can control.

While he talks to Kat, Iris releases herself, steals Josh's phone, and runs away. In the woods she looks through his phone, at her settings, boosting her intelligence, thinking how to get away. She thinks the best way is to get back to Josh's electric car.

Josh and Kat tell their other friend, Eli, that he and his robot boyfriend,were invited to confirm their story to the police, as they planned to k1ll Sergey to get his 12 million dollars, by removing software restrictions on Iris, increasing her aggression, and disabling her inability to harm humans.

Things go haywire from here, as Josh's desperate attempt to get money which aren't his,because life was unfair to him, keeps on dropping more and more bodies.

I personally enjoyed the movie, but the characters have no soul. The humans are empty inside, the robots are the ones alive , and feeling. Josh is the villain of the story, followed by Kat, who lied to him Sergey was a bad man, so she could get his money.

There's no character growth, except for Iris. The humans are unlikeable, starting with Josh who was a horrible person (he has no redeeming qualities!), and ending with Eli, who once he hears about the money he gets on board right away! Sergey wasn't even bad, he just was a guy who was cheating on his wife ! By the way, he has this ridiculous haircut and mustache..I watched many Russian movies, and Russian channels on YouTube, I've never seen Russians looking like that!

I think the movie would have been better if Josh and Kat were actually together, scamming Sergey, as it's obvious Josh only rented Iris so she could k1ll Sergey! From the getgo ,we see he's not interested in Iris,he doesn't care about her, because of how he treats her.

The movie goes out of its way to let us know there's nothing between Josh and Kat, which just makes the movie worse, as these people's only reason to k1ll a guy is money! They are pitiful!

The actors were good.

The soundtrack was good.

The visual effects were good.

The movie grossed 34.4 million at the box office,so far, against a budget of 10 million.

The movie is out in cinemas, and for rent / sale on Amazon Video, AppleTv, Fandango at Home.
