Jerry Fletcher is a New York taxi driver, who's into conspiracy theories. He has an obsession with Justice Department lawyer Alice Sutton, who tolerates his behavior because 6 months prior, he saved her from a mugger.
One day,Jerry notices he is followed by agents, probably because he talks to anyone who would listen about his conspiracies theories, and also because he has a conspiracy newsletter he sends to a few of his followers.
The agents catch him, tying him to a wheelchair, and a man who claims to know him injects him with something causing him to hallucinate .Jerry manages to bite the man's nose, and run while tied to the wheelchair, falling down the stairs on top of the men trying to catch him,and gets away. He goes to Alice, asking for help.
At the hospital, fearing for his life, Jerry asks Alice to switch his chart with the one of the criminal next to him.
The next day, Alice finds out the criminal died of a heart attack, the FBI and the CIA coming to identify the body believing to be Jerry's.
Alice meets the CIA's psychiatrist, dr. Jonas, who's nose is bandaged. Alice realizes Jerry might be telling the truth, as he told her he bit the nose of the man who kidnapped him.
Jerry fakes a heart attack in order to escape the hospital, as he has both hands handcuffed to the bed.
This is where the plot thickens, and we start wondering what's in Jerry's head that's so important, and also, how much of what Jerry said is true?
The movie was entertaining, but I thought it was too long, although I don't know what scenes could have been cut,as it didn't feel to me, it has filler scenes. The movie is action packed, it doesn't have a moment of unwinding, it always keeps you on your toes.
The movie received mixed reviews, and debuted at number one at the box office, grossing 137 million dollars, worldwide.
Cinema Score audiences gave it a B+ on an A+ to F scale.
The actors were great, especially Mel Gibson, who had to act on the edge, nervous, and even cry. Julia Roberts also had to cry.
The soundtrack was good. They play the song 'Can't take my eyes off you' a lot; when the movie ends, Lauryn Hill's version, which I always loved, plays.
The movie is 10 days free on Foxtel Now, 7 days free on Binge, for rent / sale on Amazon Video, AppleTv, Cineplex, Fandango at Home, Sky Store.
Rating : Worth a watch !
