3 friends over the age of 40, who live in a small town or a village (either way, the place is beautiful), meet weekly to talk and share their worst story about their encounters with men. Whoever has the worst story, wins a full box of caramel chocolate.
All 3 have good jobs, Kate is a school mistress, Janine is a police superintendent and Molly is a doctor.
One morning, as Kate goes to a funeral, she meets Jed, who is the new church organist. Jed,now 25, used to be her student, when he was 15, and they end up hooking up in the graveyard.
At a dance she confesses to her friends she had s3x with Jed,25, and her friends, especially Molly, berate her for it. So she decides to keep this affair from them.
Kate can't stop thinking about Jed, and goes back to see him at church. And they end up having s3x again. Jed confesses he used to have a crush on her, and she asks if they are a "thing" now. He tells her for them to be "a thing" they have to have s3x 3 times, so they do it again.
She can't tell her friends about it, because they laugh at her, and start berating her again, so she lies she is seeing the vicar.
Her friends finally find out about it when Kate babysits Molly's dog, and they catch them together. And they berate her again, especially Molly.
Jed tells Kate not to fight with them, for they are best friends, and she decides to invite them over with their dates.
It's obvious Molly doesn't like him for the simple fact that he is young. So she is trying to separate them, first by looking for his health sheet and police record, then by taking Kate and Janine on a trip to France, even going as far as trying to seduce Jed, to prove to her he doesn't love her, when she hears they are getting married.
I personally enjoyed the movie. It's a movie I've been looking for for 20 years, ever since I watched it on HBO.
I liked the peaceful life they had. I liked the love story the two lived, I liked that neither of them was using the other and had real feelings.
What I didn't like was the fact that when finally Kate found a bit of happiness (she was single for a long time, and had health problems), her friends weren't supportive, and tried to ruin it. SPOILER Also, I hated he had to die in the end, and Kate felt she had to marry someone she doesn't love so she won't be alone.
I love Andie's hair.
I liked the acting. Andie MacDowell was the best! She was so natural, and really looked like someone in such a situation, first in love, then heartbroken.
The soundtrack was Ok. I loved the song Angel by Sally Herbert.
