Down a dark hall

Year of release : 2018

The movie is based on the 1974 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan.

Considered a problem child, because wherever she goes, fires ensues, Katherine is taken by her mother to a secluded academy.

On the day the other students arrive,as she arrived a day early, she finds out there are only 5 girls at this academy, and they are to study music,drawing/painting,mathematics and literature.

They are given pills daily, and from her first night there,Katherine has an out of body experience.

As they start studying, the girls, some of them who never excelled in the matters they are pros now, become geniuses in certain fields like, mathematics, music and painting. Just that, they seem to lose interest in anything else, and they are consumed by this "passion" of painting more, doing more math exercises, writing more,to the point they are driven to suicide, due to starvation or exhaustion.

Katherine realizes she misses chunks of time,as one day she's by the river ,and when she comes to her senses she's in the professor's office playing piano,3 hours having passed by.

As the mystery unfolds it seems darker things take place at this academy and the teachers are not their friends or there to help them in any way,on the contrary.

I personally liked the movie,it kept me entertained and interested, and it even made me cry at the end.If there's one thing I find it fault with,is that they never addressed the fire problem the lead supposedly has,and they never developed the ghost story : why were there so many ghosts in the house (probably because Uma's character was a medium),and what did the angry ghost want.

The acting was good, Uma was my favorite because her character has its quirks. She seems more interesting because she seems to be hiding something, and she does!

The visual effects were good.

The soundtrack was good. Fun fact : AnnaSophia Robb learnt how to play piano for this role.

Rating : Worth a watch!
