G.I.Joe - The Rise of Cobra

Year of release : 2009

Run time : 1h58min

Genre : Action

Cast : Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Dennis Quaid

The movie is based on a 4 inch toy franchise created by Hasbro, inspired from the comic book series G.I.Joe - A real American hero.

The movie is directed by Stephen Sommers who directed The Mummy franchise, so you'll see cameos through the whole movie of the mummy himself, Imhotep, Arnold Vosloo, Brendan Fraser, Kevin J. O'Connor. From what I heard from fans of the comics and cartoons, the movie is nothing like them.

The G.I.Joes are a team of elite soldiers with top military and spy technology who travel the world saving it from threats. Their latest threat is Destro, an arms dealer who seeks to destroy the world, who is helped by an evil genius scientist who creates super soldiers, controlling them through a chip inserted at the base of their skull behind their ear.

The leading character is Duke who, on his latest mission, discovers his ex girlfriend Anna,is the Baroness,a soldier working for the evil team. The movie blends scenes from the present with those from the past in which we see what happened to Duke, Anna and her brother who was also his friend and colleague.

I found this movie entertaining,in spite of what the critics said about it. I found it funny at times and I liked the fighting scenes.

Sienna Miller as Baroness looked great, and I liked her character.

The movie started to bore me towards the end in those endless underwater ship scenes.

The movie started with a scene which I thought belonged in another movie, like, for a moment I thought I put something else on, as it starts with a scene from a few centuries ago, reminiscing of The Man in the Iron Mask .

The accelerator suits were ridiculous, also since they couldn't catch up to Sienna who was in high heels I think, running from the glass rooftop into a plane / space ship hoovering next to it.

The flashbacks were uninteresting to me, especially the one from the restaurant in which Duke proposes to Anna, as it seemed boring, out of a drama / romance.

I also hated the one with the kids  fighting all the time in Japan.

Snake Eyes took a vow of silence and didn't speak for 20 years ! In that amount of time,I don't think anyone can speak at all! My voice gets raspy and I can barely use it if I don't speak for one day!

The movie is streaming on Netflix and Pluto Tv,and for rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, AMC on Demand, Apple iTunes, DIRECTV, Google Play, Microsoft Store, Redbox, Vudu, YouTube.

Rating : Could have been a contender !
