Ghost in the shell

Year of release : 1995

Run time : 1h23min

Genre : Animation / Japanese Anime / Action / Sci Fi / Neo Noir Cyber Punk Thriller

The anime is adapted from the Japanese manga series started in 1991,with two sequels published in 2001 and 2003, written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow, and it's a Japanese - British international co-production.

In 2029 the cybernetic technology advanced so much, the human body can be augmented or completely replaced with cybernetic parts. The cyber-brain was created,a human brain in mechanical casing, allowing access to the internet and everything else.

Federal cyborg agent Maj is working on a case concerning a hacker who illegally hacks into computerized minds of human cyborg hybrids. These hybrids' minds are called ghosts, and the one doing it is called the 'Puppet Master',for it takes over their minds making them do its bidding.

They do not know the identity of this hacker,if it's male or female, but it definitely makes the ones it hacks think and see things which aren't there.

Agent Maj starts thinking about her own existence ,and finds herself saying quotes from the Bible or knowing things she didn't know before, which she calls 'whispers' in her 'ghost'.

The movie is called 'Ghost in the shell' ,the 'ghost' being the person's consciousness inhabiting the cyborg body, 'the shell'.

I personally liked the combination of traditional cel animation and CGI animation. The movie reminded me of the Matrix,as it also ponders on people's existence while they merge with machines and depend on them to survive.

The movie was translated in English and the voices were so and so,when it comes to acting,as I didn't like the acting of the lead, voicing the major.

The soundtrack was good,I loved the song with the Japanese choirs, played a few times in the movie, the first time being when they make the cyborg.

The anime is streaming on Freevee and Tubi, and is for rent / sale on Amazon Video, DirecTv, Google Play Movies, Redbox, Vudu, YouTube.

Rating : Worth a watch !
