Paul is rushing home with gifts for his son, Adam, when he is almost robbed by one of his former students who lets him go, when he recognizes him.
Jessie is at home, holding a birthday party for their son, Adam, who just turned 8 years old. They seem to have a beautiful relationship with each other, and their son, living a charmed life.
The next day, while buying her son sneakers and a basketball ball, Adam walks on the sidewalk, and while playing with the ball, is k1lled when a car drives into the sidewalk.
While leaving the church after talking about the funeral arrangements, they are approached by doctor Richard Wells, one of Jessie’s former professors (considering she’s a photographer, and his domain is completely different than hers, I don’t know what could she have studied under him..but whatever) who tells them he can clone Adam, but they have to move to the secluded town Richard’s clinic, Godsend, is in, separating from everyone in their lives, friends and family, who obviously, knew Adam.
Although Jessie had complications when she had Adam, and it’s impossible for her to conceive again, somehow they can impregnate her, and she’s fine. She gives birth, and names the child Adam.
Everything goes well, and Adam lives to his 8th birthday. Paul and Jessie are good friends with Richard, and even Adam loves him, calling him uncle Richard.
After his 8th birthday, Adam starts having nightmares about a school fire, and sleepwalks while having them. In the dream he wears the same white sleeves jacket they bought the original Adam on his 8th birthday, that he loved so much.
Paul and Jessie call Richard as he doesn’t wake up from the dream, but Richard tells them it’s just night terrors.
Adam wakes up the next day, and he seems fine, but he starts having nightmares, and being haunted by a boy in his dream that he calls Zachary. Not just that, Adam starts acting different, drawing the school fire, signing it as Zachary. He becomes violent towards his parents and his friends and classmates, and Paul decides to investigate after he sees his bike by a river where one of his friends was found dead.
The movie started well, but it lost me along the way.
Paul is a biology teacher and Jessie is a photographer but they live in the biggest 3 floors house by a lake, in a small town! When they move, they choose another house. Where do they get the money from? I did like the houses, they were beautiful.
The action takes place over a span of 9 years, but the characters look exactly the same, they didn’t age a day, although when the movie started they already had an 8 year old kid! The wife has ugly haircuts (it felt they tried to uglify Rebecca who’s a beautiful woman). Richard looks just as old as on the day he met them.
Jessie is very loyal to Richard, depending on him for everything, telling him everything, while Paul decides to think for himself, and look up the things his son is talking about and drawing.
SPOILERS At the end of the movie it didn’t seem like they solved their son’s problem. They just moved to another town, hoping for it to magically go away. END OF SPOILERS
