The movie is a sequel to Gogol,The beginning,and has a third part being part of a series of three movies.
The series of movies are based more or less on the works of Russian novelist Nikolai Gogol,"Evenings on a farm near Dikanka".
Gogol,a law clerk and writer,agrees to help detective Yakov Guro,and leave for a secluded village where a series of eerie murders took place.
As he investigates,he realizes he has a supernatural connection to whatever is happening or to whoever is doing this.
The movie opens with Gogol and his colleagues opening the chest his superior demanded to be opened in the event of his death.
In there they find his notes on the murders,and how they are all connected to religious holidays. And also his notes on Gogol himself.
One of his colleagues is starting to suspect Gogol of being the k!ller, as the houses of seven women are marked ,and he convinced the police to keep them all in one house,guarded.
The dark entities start calling Gogol a dark one,and his mysterious birth is unraveled to the viewer.
The movie,just like the first one, is split in two,probably due to it being a tv show with episodes they merged into one movie.
The movie and its haunting,eerie vibe is reminiscing of The Sleepy Hollow,and they even have a horseman who kidnaps girls to kill them.
The horseman has the ability to change its appearance,trick people into doing its will,as this supernatural event unravels.
Viy is the name of a demon ,master to the witches,which appears in the second part of the movie.
The movie has great visual effects,and great acting. I saw the lead actor,Aleksandr Petrov , in so many movies,and he is great,always.
The set design is top notch, the costumes are great,the story is captivating.
The soundtrack was good,merging with the visuals.
The movie which I watched in 3 parts,is listed on Amazon Prime Video as a tv series with 8 episodes of 51 to 57 minutes.
The movie is rated 18+ as it includes horror elements and violence.
