The movie is based on the first Young Adult novel of the Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore, published in 2010.

The movie opens with the Mogadorians who landed on earth, looking for 9 children. They find one and his guardian, and k1ll them, turning them to ashes.

John receives a scar which is burnt into his leg, as a sign that the 3d of the 9 children died, when he is having fun with his friends on the beach.

See,John is an alien from the Lorien planet, who landed on earth, hiding from the Mogadorians who killed his people and are looking for the 9 gifted children who were supposed to save their race, and are now the only ones left of their kind (with 3 k1lled by the Mogadorians, only 6 kids with their guardians remain ). They all wear a medallion which is the symbol engraved in the scar.

When his guardian, that everyone thinks is his father, hears that people saw what happened to him when he got the scar, he decides to move, so they won’t be found.

A lizard is following them, getting in their car as they leave, turning into a dog John adopts, after they move into their new home.

They move from Florida to Paradise, Ohio. Henri,his guardian, has a software which deletes every picture of John from the internet.

Although Henri wants him to stay hidden, John wants to go to school (only in movies kids can’t wait to go to school!).

In school, he meets Sarah when he registers, and she shows him around. They seem to like each other, but Sarah’s ex gives him a hard time.

John also befriends Sam, who is bullied by Sarah’s ex and his friends.

John takes his side, which doesn’t sit well with the ex, who wants Sarah back, and goes as far as kidnapping Sarah from a date with John!

Because John fights them, the next day the guy’s father, the sheriff, pays a visit to John’s place.

Henri decides it’s time to go, as he doesn’t like people coming to ask questions. John wants to stay, as he loves Sarah, and apparently with the Loriens is forever.

At the same time all this is happening, John is starting to get his powers, and they kick in at the worst moments, like when he’s in school.

Sam tells John about his father, how he believed in aliens, and disappeared. John realizes Sam’s father told him about their arrival, and probably the Mogadorians k1lled him.

When he wakes up one morning, John sees Henri disappeared and he gets a phone call about it. He calls Sam to take him to the address in question.

Apparently, some conspiracy theorists kidnapped him for the Mogadorians. John manages to set him free, but one Mogadorian shows up, and trying to escape him, Henri sacrifices himself to save John. Before dying, Henri tells John to find the other children because together they are more powerful.

Number 6 is looking for them, and luckily for John, she finds him at the right moment, when he needs help.

I personally enjoyed the movie, my favorite character was Number 6.

The movie has it all, friendship, romance, action, thrills. There’s a little bit for everyone in it.

John wants to live a normal life, just that he’s not normal, nor like anyone else. I think he sees in Sam the outcast he is, and that’s why they bond.

Sarah is the former popular girl who grew out of it, and discovered photography. The ex who told lies about her, ironically thinks he can have her back just because he wants her.

Henri is a warrior with a mission to keep John safe, and that’s what he does, ultimately giving his life to save John.

Number 6 is a competent fighter who’s guardian died. I loved the fighting / action scenes involving her. She can take care of herself and others, being able to k1ll Mogadorians.

One thing that bothered me was Sarah taking pictures of everything (ironically, I do that too!).

The acting was good. I didn’t quite liked how Dianna Agron acted when she was scared and angry.

I liked the soundtrack.

The visual effects , the prosthetics and make-up were good.

The movie received negative reviews from critics with reviews under 40% on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, and higher audience scores, like 57% from Rotten Tomatoes, and a 6.0 Metacritic user score .

Cinema Score audiences graded the movie a B+.

The movie grossed almost 150 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of around 60 million dollars.
