Little women

Year of release : 2019

Run time : 2h15min

Genre : Period Drama

Cast : Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh

The movie is based on the novel, originally published in two volumes,in 1868 and 1869, of the same name by Louisa May Alcott, and a remake of the 1994 movie with Winona Rider and Christian Bale.

Little Women is a coming of age story of four sisters, Jo,Amy, Beth and Meg,and is based on the lives of the author and her 3 sisters. It spans over a period of 7 years, and it includes a few Christmases, mingling the present with the past .

Jo wants to become a writer,so she publishes anonymously in a newspaper to provide for her family.

The father is most of the movie absent,as he volunteered as a chaplain in the Civil War. Their mother is a bleeding heart, and cares for the poor,so much so,she asks her daughters to give their Christmas breakfast to the poor woman with kids she is taking care of.

And that is how, their sister,Beth, gets sick and dies of Scarlet Fever, caring for the sick child of this woman.

Amy was my favorite, she is secretly in love with Laurie, who is in love with Jo.

Jo is best friends with Laurie, and seeing them together one would think they both care just as much for each other. When Laurie confesses his feelings for Jo,Jo tells him she doesn't love him.

Meg marries Laurie's teacher for love, and leads a modest life.

I loved the era they created with the houses, the carriages, the costumes..but..I found the movie too long, and it kinda bored me. As you know, drama is not my cup of tea..

The actors were great, especially Meryl Streep, but when doesn't she deliver?

The movie is ready to buy on Amazon Video, AMC on Demand, Apple iTunes, DirecTv, Google Play Movies, Microsoft Store, Redbox, Vudu,YouTube, and you can watch it on Netflix with a subscription.
