One night,in college,Tom ends up in Hannah's room, and her bed, thinking her to be in the Monica character,as he was dressed as Bill Clinton. Hannah insults him,and when he finally finds Monica,he's not interested in her,as she's drunk and vomiting.
Ten years later, Hannah and Tom are best friends, because she's not like all the other girls who want to date him, without him even trying (I don't understand why,as to me Patrick Dempsey is not a heartthrob). He has these stupid rules,of not going out with the same girl on the same week(eye roll),or not calling her for 24 hours so he won't seem too desperate,or taking them to family events.
He and Hannah go out daily, having brunch, lunch, whatever, and they order what the other would want,so they eat the other one's food!
Tom is obsessed with dogs, although he doesn't have one,and whenever he sees one,he's all over them, telling them he loves them!
After Tom's father's sixth wedding, Hannah accepts a gig in Scotland. Without her,Tom realizes he misses her,and not just that,he's in love with her!
Tom decides to tell Hannah he loves her, just that when she comes back from Scotland,a month and a half later, she tells him she's getting married, and presents him to her fiance!
Hannah asks him to be her maid of honor,as she would expect him to ask her to be his best man,at his wedding(eye roll),since they're such besties, and Tom accepts.
So Tom takes his role seriously, helping the other bride's maids with the wedding and bridal shower, while at the same time, taking advice from his friends on how to tell her what he feels about her,and how to make her fall for him.
It's gonna be a hard task,as the fiance is perfect, physically,then..he's a duke, and his family is very rich, having a castle for each season..not to mention he excels in everything!
The movie is not that interesting, the plot is very predictable, and I think, having mentioned Bronte they could have used that as inspiration for the ending(with the crashing of the wedding and all).
I don't remember if the movie made me laugh once,as I found it so common.
The actors were fine, when it comes to acting. I thought Michelle had a haircut which didn't work in her favor. I personally didn't find any of the male leads attractive,so I didn't care which one would get the girl, although, it was obvious,Tom would, since they had so much in common.
It's not a movie I'd watch again, although I watched it probably more than ten years ago,and remembered the plot.
I personally don't like womanizers, and wouldn't even talked to Tom,not to mention,be his friend or end up dating him (bleah!). I think the duke was a better man,but hey,he didn't let her eat his cake, and his family wanted them to name their child some name she didn't like!
The movie has a few vulgar scenes, like the grandmother wearing certain beads on her neck, and in the first ten minutes Hannah working on a nude painting.
The movie made 106 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 40 million, in spite of it receiving negative reviews.
CinemaScore audiences gave it a B+ on an A+ to F scale.
The movie is for rent / sale on Amazon, AppleTv, Fandango at Home.
Rating : Could have been a contender !
