Jules is a food critic, who avoids calls from her best friend,Michael, whom she says is in love with. They had a short lived romance, which she ended as she didn't quite liked dating and public displays of affection. She has short lived relationships, and she and Michael said that if they aren't married by age 28, which she will celebrate in 3 weeks, they should marry each other.

She has another male best friend, who is gay, and cares for her deeply (since he comes to the rescue all the time, and listens to her nonsense).

When she finally calls Michael (because she didn't take his calls for a month), he tells her he is getting married in 3 days with a very rich 20 year old, Kimmy.

Although until then she was avoiding talking to him, because she was afraid he will bring up marrying each other, she now decides to fly to the wedding, to break them up, as she loves Michael.

Kimmy seems lovely, even makes her an honorary bridesmaid (giving her a lavender gown which Jules rips), and seems to truly love Michael, as she is willing to give up school and her ideals to follow him around the world, while he builds his career!

Jules is doing her best to make them separate, giving Kim bad advice and even sending mails from Kim's father's office computer to Michael's boss!

I personally enjoyed the movie, Jules was ridiculous, it was so obvious Michael loved this girl, and if it took her finding out he is getting married, to realize she loved him, I don't know how deep was her love.

The movie has some ridiculous funny scenes (Jules falls a lot), but I didn't like the musical parts.

I did like her gay best friend, who gave her good advice which she refused to take, and who was always there for her, no matter how ridiculous she was in her actions and how far away.

I didn't like Cameron Diaz's haircut, it seemed they tried to unglify her.

The acting was fine.

I didn't like the soundtrack, as it had old music which sounded Jazzy to me, and I don't like Jazz.

The movie has a lot of musical numbers which I didn't like, hence I labeled it a Musical.

The movie grossed 299.3 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 38 million.

The movie received positive reviews, Cinema Score audiences graded the movie an A-.

The movie received many award nominations (winning some), including an Oscar (Best Original Musical or Comedy Score), 3 Golden Globes, and a BAFTA (Best Actor in Supporting Role for Rupert Everett) nomination.

The movie has a Chinese (2016) and a Mexican (2019) remake.

On 29.07.2025 it was announced a sequel is in the works.
