My soul to take

The title of the movie comes from the prayer ' Now I lay me down to sleep' which has the lines "If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." and is written,produced and directed by Wes Craven.

 

Abel Plenkov, a man who's wife is expecting their second child, discovers one night, as he is making a wooden horse for the baby, that he is the Riverton Ripper, the town serial k1ller.

Although he tries to k1ll himself upon discovering he k1lled his wife, he survives as his k1ller split personality takes over, and tries to k1ll the police and k1lls quite a few people in the process.

That very night, 7 women go into labor,although they weren't due.

16 years later, it's the eve of the birthday of 7 teenagers. They tell stories about the ripper, and are interrupted by the police.

Some of them have unique qualities, like for example Penelope, who is very religious,talks to God, and knows things before they happen, and Adam,who sees things as they happen and seems to have some of that split personality disorder.

On their birthday, the Riverton Seven, as the teenagers were called, start dying one by one. Adam, has nightmares about it and can even see visions when he's awake.

Due to the events,and Adam always knowing about it, the audience wonder if it's him,especially since he's a bit weird, talking to himself in voices.

 

Personally I didn't understand why the guy was considered as having a split personality (I think this is how it was written but it doesn't make any sense!). I think that due to his evil,and how he acted,how strong he was, he was possessed. There is no other explanation for it, especially since they say his 'soul' went into one or more of the kids born on the night he died. But not as in, being one of them, but taking over them, which is possession!

Adam's sister, who I thought was much older than him, was annoying and despicable . She was 19 and still in high school, torturing kids and mostly her own brother! There aren't so many characters I hate so much when watching a movie,and she was one of them!

There's a scene in which we discover who she is, and the way she acts,the things she says and does to her brother, she should have been thrown out of the house, but her step mother apologizes to her!

The actors were good, especially Max Thieriot, who had to change his voice and personality pretty fast in one scene,and the actor who played Abel Plenkov.

The visual effects were good.

The soundtrack was fine.

The movie is for rent / sale on Amazon, AppleTv, Fandango at Home.
