The movie is the sequel to the 2011 Yolki 2, and the prequel to the 2014 Yolki 1914.
In Samara, Nastia (who’s Christmas wish in the previous movie was to see her parents together, and got her wish granted) is trying to make her mother keep the dog she loves so much, as she wants to take it to London, to one of her friends, who has a dog of the same breed, she is trying to hook her dog up with. Problem is, her dog already has a companion who loves her, but it’s of a different breed. This story line was ridiculous! The dog travels the world, and knows exactly where to go!
In Novosibirsk, a doctor who thinks he didn’t achieve anything in his life, is trying to impress the woman he likes, by lying to her he is rich. His car gets stolen, but the thieves bring it back ,as they find out he’s a doctor!
In Saint Petersburg, our two leads of the franchise, Evgeniy and Borya, have toddlers, and they end up babysitting while their wives have a spa day. This doesn’t work well for them, as they end up in the mental institution.
In Perm, the two snowboarder friends from the previous movie end up enrolled in the mandatory military service. So, the girlfriend of one of them plans to visit them ,in the middle of nowhere, with her granny.
The movie’s theme is the boomerang, as the characters, especially the little girl, believe and say that if you do a good deed it comes back to you. Also, just like in the previous one, they are obsessed with getting the peas for the Russian Olivier salad.
Supposedly a comedy it didn’t make me laugh, it bored me.
I personally didn’t like it. I don’t know who this movie is for, I‘d say is aimed at kids, but it has grown up matters except for the part with the dogs.
The movie feels and looks generic, like the tv movies filmed indoors, in settings especially created for the movie.
The actors were good.
The soundtrack was generic.
The visual effects were at the level of the visual effects from tv movies.
In 2022, Yolki 3 was the highest grossing movie of the franchise, allegedly grossing over 38 million dollars at the box office.
