No escape
Year of release : 2015
Run time : 1h43min
Genre : Thriller
Cast : Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, Pierce Brosnan
Jack moves to Southeast Asia ( I don't recall them ever giving the name of the country, just that it borders Vietnam) from Austin,Texas, with his family( wife and two daughters) ,as he got a job at the Cardiff waterworks as an engineer. He says when asked that he invented a valve which is supposed to help with the water supply.
The wife is not too happy about the move, but she doesn't complain.
The very next morning, riots take over the streets, and Jack realizes the protesters kill the police and all the foreigners. He manages to get back to the hotel ( as he went out to buy a newspaper) not without incident,as he almost got caught.
In the hotel, more rioters kill foreigners,to the point, they knock on their doors or break them down, and kill them, yelling "Blood for water".
Reaching their hotel room,Jack finds out his eldest daughter ,and the weak link of the story,is at the pool,as she had a fit and left. Who leaves their 10 year old,or something, kid go by herself on their first day there,to the pool?!
Jack manages to find her,and then ,with the help of Pierce Brosnan's character,a man they met on the plane, and who offered them a ride to the hotel, the night before, they manage to get to the roof. But they're not safe even there.
This starts a series of life and death situations in which the family is put, trying to get out of the city and the country.
I personally liked the movie,it's action packed,as the leading character, Jack, is caught in the middle of the riots, and we see first hand, through his eyes, what happens ,and then through the family's eyes, trying to escape this nightmare.
The movie has these suspense moments, for example , in one scene the family has to jump from one building onto another..it honestly feels like you're there with them, and go through what they're going through, you don't have time to catch your breath.
The actors were all great, very natural.
No escape is streaming on Redbox, and Vudu Free, and is for rent or buy on Amazon Video, AMC on Demand, Apple iTunes, DirecTv, Microsoft Store, Vudu.
