Resident Evil : Welcome to Raccoon City

Year of release : 2021

Run time : 1h47min

Genre : Horror / Action

Cast : Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Kaya Scodelario

The movie is based on the Resident Evil video games but I,not playing video games, don't know how much of the video game is in the movie. I read a few fan reviews and apparently the movie has nothing to do with the video games, what a shocker !

Also,I hate when they end a franchise just to restart it with new faces and plot. They did the same with Spider Man,that one is on its third life !Or should I say franchise reinstallment.

The action of the movie is set in 1998.

The movie opens with the siblings Claire and Chris Redfield,as children,in the orphanage ,where Claire is visited at night by a distorted child. Her brother tells her it's all in her head.

Many years later,Claire, who ran away, comes back to the city. She finds the city almost empty,as The Umbrella Corporation left it almost completely, and the remaining people suffer serious side effects.

These side effects, soon, turn into very serious side effects,as the people affected by whatever was released in the atmosphere start changing, developing and "itching tasty" hunger, how a character put it.

Chris Redfield is a bit of an idiot. But Leon is an even bigger idiot,it's ridiculous. They are both cops. So is Wesker,a cop,and I didn't know that.

Chris and Claire don't speak, they are like strangers, which I heard, in the video games isn't so,they are very close,a fan said, the reason Claire wears the red jackets is because Chris keeps on getting her one, along with many other trinkets which she ends up giving away to people she cares for.

I loved the soundtrack with the choirs. The actors were fine, I guess, the actress who plays Claire wears the same face( boring mimic) in every movie, and I don't like her acting.

The movie started out well,it really gave the vibe of an '90's movie, but after almost an hour,it lost me.

Rating : Could have been a contender ! because it could have been great like the first Resident Evil with Milla.
