Miranda is a nurse who is training to become a surgeon. Although a nurse, she is a bit of a germophobe, as she doesn’t like touching the pens other people touched (she actually orders them through the mail so only she would touch them!), and cleans the phones others touched, but is Ok with touching anything else, and sitting on it.
Her father has a dog, which for 5 years, has been almost attacking her whenever it sees her.
Miranda wants to buy a new house, and is excited about the double ovens the house she is ready to buy, has, as she likes to bake cakes at the pro level.
Miranda is getting ready to go on a blind date with a man one of her friends set her up with. Thinking the man got to her place too early, she opens the door, and ends up being brutally r@ped, as the man turns out to be someone else. When her date shows up, he calls the police and ambulance, and she is taken to the hospital.
When asked if she recognized the man, Miranda realizes she does know him, as he works at the restaurant she usually goes with her father.
At the restaurant, the man is trying to get an early pay, so he’d flee. Just then, the police come and catch him.
Miranda can’t sell the house anymore, as everybody knows what happened, and she can’t buy the one she wanted, so decides to deal with what she has, beautifying it. She also can’t be a surgeon anymore, as her hand shakes, and as a surgeon one needs a steady hand.
She becomes friends with her father’s dog, although her father keeps worrying that the dog sleeps too much and doesn’t eat much. Miranda doesn’t see anything wrong with the dog (or so we think).
And, starts sending letters to her r@pist, who keeps on sending them back to her, refusing them, I guess (that’s what the title of the movie comes from). One day, he accepts to see her, and they start talking, Miranda visiting him in jail on a regular basis.
What is Miranda doing, is she trying to heal by trying to understand the man who r@ped her (I personally wouldn’t have been able to look at him), or is there more to it?
I personally enjoyed the movie, I just wished they showed us more, and not just end it when it finally got interesting.
Miranda is a character with many layers, as as we get to know, we see there’s more to her than meets the eye.
She has a colleague who is also her friend (played by Camryn Manheim), who is a bit messy, as she eats a lot, leaving the food she eats on everything she touches, as she doesn’t clean her hands (it seems she eats cake with her hands, and when she wants to cut the cake, she wants to cut it with a knife full of mustard! She also eats the cake from the full cake cutting it with a potato chip! )
I liked Miranda’s style (dresses).
The acting was good.
Rumer Willis (Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ daughter) plays the friend who sets her up on a blind date with Kevin.
The soundtrack was good.
The movie received negative reviews, with a 14% approval rating from the critics and a 35% approval rating from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 23 score on Metacritic.
Movie trivia : Illeana Douglas, who plays the real estate agent, also played with Nick Nolte in Cape Fear, in which her character suffers the same thing and worse, than Miranda.
