Scrooged is a retelling of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol.
The youngest president in the history of television, how he likes to call himself,Frank Cross, likes to take things to the extreme when it comes to what's on tv and the ads.
He doesn't like his employees' presentation of the Christmas specials on tv,so he shows them his(a very dark, end of days themed). The day before Christmas.
He's also a bit of a jerk, he makes everyone work for Christmas. He's very selfish, self centered,he's always about himself, and doesn't care about anyone's feelings or problems.
Like for example,he fires the only man who has the guts to tell him his presentation is awful and could actually harm people(when an old woman actually dies while watching the ad,he's happy to hear it )
He doesn't even let his assistant go to the doctor with her son,who can't speak,to an appointment she made two months prior.
He wants to call the cops on Christmas carolers who are singing joined by people,on the street.
He gives his brother towels for Christmas and never attends his parties. He also gives his assistant a towel and no bonus for Christmas, although she works very hard, daily.
He literally steals cabs from old ladies.
So,due to his amazing character,he is visited by the 3 ghosts of Christmas,-Past, Present and Future,to set him straight.
The irony is they are staging live in the studio,on Christmas day,Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" !
The acting is good, the visual effects are really good for 1988,and the movie has a beautiful song sang by Annie Lennox(who was huge at the time with Eurythmics) and Al Green "Put a little love in your heart"(a cover of the 1969 Jackie DeShannon song ), as a soundtrack.
Rating : Worth a watch !
