While on a holiday in Italy, American couple based in London, Louise and Ben with their daughter Agnes, who is way too attached to her teddy bear, meet British couple Paddy and Ciara, with their son Ant. Paddy tells them their son has a rare condition, being born with a very small tongue,so he can't speak.
The couples got along so great on their holiday, that Paddy invites the two to their place in the country,in Devon, whenever they have the time.
Back in London,Ben is unemployed and Louise almost cheated, so when a postcard arrives from Paddy, Ben convinces Louise to join, although she didn't want to go, stating they don't know them very well.
They barely find the farmhouse, and they arrive at night. The two give them a warm welcome, and even tell them they slaughtered their favorite goose,if I'm not mistaken, forcing Louise to eat the meat, although she told them she's a vegetarian(they don't actually force her, but she doesn't want to offend them, the way people do when they want to please others and do things against their nature).
At night, they offer them a bed with dirty sheets (it looks to be blood) and put their daughter in the attic with their 'son' ,on a floor mattress.
Louise doesn't really want to stay, but Ben does (because he's unemployed, and he's not the one sleeping on a floor mattress, with a stranger of the opposite sex in the room), so she stays for him. When they finally decide to leave, Paddy and Ciara offer to take them out to dinner, and once they leave the diner which looked like someone's house (it looked like they had dinner in the kitchen), they let Ben pay (who was unemployed) .
They finally have enough when they find their daughter sleeping in bed with Paddy and Ciara, but the daughter has a fit,as she can't go anywhere without her bunny, although she's 12! I honestly felt like slapping her around!I wouldn't have gone back!
They go back, patch things up with Paddy and Ciara, and decide to stay some more, while Ant shows Agnes what his 'parents' do for a living.
I personally didn't like the movie, it was too long, and not much happens. I checked the phone a few times, and an hour in, they were still playing 'hide and seek' -so to speak, as nothing happened, and they were still at these people's place getting bored, and boring the audience! Honestly, when we left, the people behind us were talking about how they didn't like the movie!
When the action starts, there's not much of it, and it all happens very fast.
Whenever they say weekend in movies, it's always 3-4 nights or more (!) to the point I'm wondering how long does the weekend last in their opinion,as again, in this movie, they already slept there 2 or 3 nights (they were at least 2!),and when they wanted to leave it should have been Sunday(if they got there on Friday), but then Paddy wants to keep them there some more, and Ben doesn't really object, because he drank beer! Well, why did you,Ben,weren't you leaving?!
This is the Hollywood era of weak men,so the husband doesn't save his family, the wife does. Everytime.
The whole time I was waiting for something to happen, for them to put something in the American couple's food or drinks, for them to wake up in a dungeon, but nothing of that nature happened!
The acting was great. Most of the time the actors have to act embarrassed, the way people do in awkward situations, when they don't know how to act or behave around new people. This was pretty much the whole movie, as the leads were 'beating around the bush' afraid to say or do anything to upset the weird couple, who got angry because their kid wasn't good enough at dancing to Rednex!
The soundtrack was good.
The movie is out in cinemas across the world.
Rating : Could have been a contender !
