Maria and her husband, Kirill, fight one evening, while leaving her painting exposition. It seems he is always too busy for her, disrespects her work, and she suspects him of having an affair and wanting a divorce,as she discovered he works on putting their apartment into his parents' name. While fighting in the car, driving home, she seems to be swirling the wheel into an oncoming truck.
She wakes up a few weeks later in the hospital, and she is told her husband is alive. Going home, she finds her husband has a broken arm, but is otherwise fine, and seems to be gentle and loving, as he says, the accident changed his perspective on things.
Everything is so perfect, Maria is afraid she is dead, and it's all a dream. To be honest, I thought the movie was going in that direction, but isn't.
People seem to not like her husband (at the reveal we find out why people react the way they do), and she invites her painting teacher to dinner with the two of them .The man draws them, and when she is given the finished painting, it's just her.
She keeps on dreaming about having a daughter, which she finds out later, is a story in the news about a girl who went missing, and the doctor tells her the girl is supposed to be herself.
Remembering that her husband was seeing a woman before their accident, she goes see her, and we see her going to the cemetery, where she finds Kirill's grave!
From here on, she is on a path to discover what's really going on, as she starts suspecting her mother of k1lling her father.
I personally enjoyed the movie while I thought she was dead. The movie doesn't go in that direction, and goes completely off the rails, as we find out the syndrome is a disease she has (I think they said it's Capgras's syndrome, but I don't think that's it.It might also be Cotard's syndrome (but this only relates to her husband) among other things- she reminded me of Rebecca De Mornay's character in "Never talk to strangers") SPOILERS as there are 3 people in her life who died under suspicious circumstances, yet her doctor and her mother say it's coincidence, and anyone else's fault but hers, when it was obvious, her being the common denominator, it was her. The doctor still loves her and hides her problems, yet she k1lls him at the end, which makes no sense, and lowers the movie's rating. I don't understand why would he ask her mother and her friend to give into her illusion and pretend! It makes no sense. END OF SPOILERS
The movie has this beautiful glow of end of summer, early autumn, or setting sun on a summer day. It's shot on golden brown colors, reminding me of autumn or late summer days. It really has this dream vibe, and I honestly thought it was all in her head. Some of it was in her head, but not all.
The movie is beautiful to look at, it was filmed in beautiful places,at beautiful locations. I liked their home, their neighborhood.
The acting was fine.
The soundtrack was good.
I liked the visual effects.
