The movie is apparently based on E.A.Poe’s short tale “A tell-tale heart”.
It's been 5 months since Terry got a heart transplant. He takes a lot of pills and goes to periodic check-ups to make sure his body doesn't reject the heart.
He is friends with his daughter's doctor, Elizabeth Clemson, and finally asks her out.
His daughter has a very rare degenerative disease, fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, which turns tendons, ligaments and muscles into bone, making them immobile.
One day, while going to the hospital for a check-up, he sees a woman crying for help in the parking lot of the hospital, when a paramedic shows up. Terry's heart starts racing in his chest when seeing the man, while getting visions of this man during a home invasion, and Terry doesn't know what's happening, or what to do. His doctor tells him it's normal and he shouldn't worry about it.
Seeing his doctor left without taking his file, he checks his donor's name and the name of the first respondent.
After another hospital check-up, he sees the man again, and follows him outside, where, in an altercation, he k1lls him.
The next day he's going to the police to give himself in, but changes his mind.
He starts researching his donor's death, and finds out he and his wife were k1lled in a home invasion, and looks up the detective on the case.
After another check-up he goes to see Liz, and sees another man that his heart reacts to, giving him visions, and ends up following him, pushing him in front of the oncoming train!
After talking to him, the detective figures out he might be the one taking down the ones responsible for his donor's death, and helps him by giving him a gun !
This was one of my favorite movies, and it's definitely a hidden gem, with good acting, and a unique plot with a few twists towards the end.
Terry is a single father, who's wife left when she heard their child has a rare disease. As if that wasn't enough, he has heart problems, and found a donor at the last moment, after he talked to Liz to adopt his daughter, if he died.
Liz really cares for him and his daughter, helping them whenever she can, with more than we think.
The detective on the donor's case ends up being the detective on the paramedics' deaths too, and helps Terry by taking the evidence putting him at the scene of the crime, being more to him than meets the eye.
The actors were good, Josh Lucas is amazing,he has these sudden twitches to express the heart desires which are right on the money.
The soundtrack was good.
