In the 1990’s the scientists cloned Dolly the sheep, then the genome project successfully mapped the human genetic blueprint, DNA, and right after, anti-cloning protests abrupted in Rome. The human cloning test failed, and the court ordered the clones to be destroyed. 6th Day laws were passed, banning human cloning.
In the near future,” sooner than we think”, American football player Johnny Phoenix is injured during a game (they slammed him against the ground, breaking his neck) and is taken by the paramedics.
Adam is reading the morning news on his bedroom bathroom mirror on his birthday. On tv there’s an ad about animal cloning, which is legal. His daughter is asking for a SimPal doll for his birthday, so he won’t feel bad she’s not getting anything! LOL!
Adam is a charter pilot, and is friends with one of his pilot colleagues,Hank, who prefers AI girlfriends to real ones, as the real women talk too much! He also drives a self driving car.
His wife calls him after he got to work to tell him the dog was found with some canine infectious virus, and had to be put to sleep. She asks him to go to RePet, to clone the dog. Adam doesn’t want to. Hank, who had his cat cloned, is trying to convince him to do it.
Before he flies his new billionaire client ,Adam is asked to sign a non-disclosure contract and to take a blood test which is also scanning his eyes.
Hank convinces him to give him the billionaire client (although the man specifically asked for Adam), for he’ll pose as him, while he goes to check the RePet store.
Hank flies him, and an anti-cloning assassin k1lls them all once they land in the mountains.
Adam wakes up in a taxi which took him to a mall. He talks to someone from RePet (who acts like they already talked), and goes to buy the SimPal doll while he still thinks about the dog cloning.
Adam buys the doll, and decides not to clone the dog. He calls Hank, but he doesn’t answer.
When he gets home, Adam sees the dog outside, the party already started, the doll is already inside the house, and…himself,blowing the candles.
When he wants to enter his house, 2 people approach him, telling him the 6th Day law was broken, a human was cloned, him. And he needs to go with them.
Because he doesn’t want to go with them, they taser him, and take him to their car. Adam runs from them before they can put him in their car, and takes his car from the garage. The woman who got in the car with him, while another car chases him, tells him she was hired to k1ll him. She tells him nobody can know there’s two of him, for whoever sees that, will be k1lled.
Adam manages to escape them after his car falls into the water due to the crazy car chase.
Two of the people who were chasing him, and died in the process, are being cloned, and are back within a few hours.
At the organ transplant facility, people are protesting the doctor who is giving a speech about cloning organs for a transplant. Apparently they can’t clone a brain, for that they need to clone the whole person (it makes no sense. You can’t clone the brain by itself, but you can clone the brain with the whole person!). The football player makes an appearance and seems to be completely fine.
Adam goes to the police, but they tell him he’s already been to the police complaining about the opposite, and he appears in their files as being crazy. They put him in the waiting room, and while he waits he sees the same people coming after him.
Adam manages to break out of the room, and trying to make a getaway, he k1lls again, the guy who was k1lled in the car crash and was brought back through cloning.
Adam goes to Hank’s place, who just got home, and was relaxing with his AI girlfriend. Hank actually tells him he doesn’t know what happened, he just woke up at Kelly’s, at 11 o’clock at night, the whole day being a blank space.
Adam takes Hank to his place, where they see what they think to be his clone, fixing the garage door. Adam is thinking about k1lling him, thinking his clone is not alive.
But what if that is not his clone, and it’s the other way around ? How can he tell who’s the real human and who’s the clone?
I personally enjoyed the movie, but I don’t know how they can clone a person or even an animal, as we have souls, you can’t clone the soul.I think it would be just an empty vessel like a zombie.
I thought that through this technology people kinda lost their humanity, as in, they took death too lightly, as they didn’t care they put a dog down, for they went to the cloning store and got a new version of it. It was the same with people, as to the ones who’ve been cloned it was completely normal. People who lost someone didn’t go through the grieving process, they didn’t grieve the loss of the person or animal who died for real, for they cloned it.
They kept on saying they could live forever, but it’s not true, the real them did die, the copy lived on, the real person experienced death, they didn’t cheat it! The soul passed on.
Also, Adam says to an anti-cloning protester that God shouldn’t have k1lled his dog if He was anti-cloning, but it wasn’t God who k1lled his dog, it was the vet, because the dog had some virus (and don’t get me started on animal viruses).
If you pay attention to the conversations, you can tell who’s the clone.
The SimPal doll was looking scary.
The acting was good. Arnold was the only one who didn’t give 100% but I think that’s just his acting range.
The soundtrack was good.
The visual effects stand the test of time.
The title of the movie comes from the Bible Genesis verse of God creating the world in 6 days, and people on the 6th day.
Cinema Score audiences graded the movie a C. IMDB graded it a 6 out of 10.
The movie grossed 96 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 82 million dollars, out of which, 25 million dollars was only Arnold’s salary.
Arnold was nominated at the Razzie Awards for Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actor and Worst On-Screen Couple for playing Adam and his clone.
The movie was nominated for 4 Saturn Awards- Best Sci Fi Film, Best Actor, Best Special Effects, Best Make-Up.
