The crow

Year of release : 1994

Run time : 1h42min

Genre : Fantasy / Action / Horror / Gothic Romance

Cast : Brandon Lee

The movie is based on the graphic novel of the same name published in 1989 ,and stars one of my favorite actors, ever since I was a kid, when I first watched this movie,Brandon Lee,may he rest in peace!

Rocker Eric Draven and his girlfriend are killed in their apartment by the gang which rules the town, on Halloween night.

One year later,a crow brings Eric back from the dead,to get vengeance. Eric goes back to their apartment, and remembering what happened to him, paints his face in the Mask of Tragedy.

Walking the rooftops of the city, amazed by his new powers,he runs into one of the gang members who r@ped and k!lled his girlfriend, and stabbed, shot and threw him out of the window. The man was good with knives,so Eric shows him his skills too.

He then goes to the pawn shop to get back the engagement ring this bad guy stole from them, and due to the owner's lack of cooperation, burns it down.

One by one, Eric tracks these men down, and leaves his signature at the murder scene, the outline of a crow,as street art.

The visual effects were good for the era,but not Terminator level (which was released in 1991, 3 years before The Crow).

The acting was fine.

The soundtrack was so and so,it started out well, but it lost itself. I didn't like the songs chosen for the movie, I found them weak and not matching the movie. At times,if not all the time, the sound effects were much louder than the music which could barely be heard.

Due to the tragedy surrounding the movie and comics - Brandon Lee died on the set shot ,and the writer of the comics, James O'Barr, was inspired to write the comics after his girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver- the movie is bittersweet, having a gothic romance feel to it.

The crow is streaming on Hoopla, Paramount+ Amazon Channel, Paramount+ Roku Premium Channel, and is for rent / sale on Amazon Video, DirecTv, Google Play Movies, Redbox, YouTube.

Rating : Worth a watch !
