In a secluded place,a father and his three children live in fear. The forest their cabin is in is always surrounded by a mysterious fog, which sometimes reveals a beast hunting the premises. Whenever it's hunting, they cover the windows.
One day the father leaves with his eldest son,but only the father comes back, and refuses to talk about his son, when asked about it by his youngest son.
The young son becomes suspicious of his father, and tries to get into his bedroom,as he always keeps it locked.
Fleeing the house, the young son finds an old man and what seems to be a boy,and although the father is reluctant, offers them shelter and food.
The actors were good, the mood was set,but the plot was bad!
The movie ends without an end,and the audience might feel cheated. Nothing ever happens and the end comes too abrupt, leaving everything unanswered,as if they had all these ideas about how the movie should start, but no ideas about where it should go, and how it should end.
The cinematography was good, there's a few scenes in which I loved the directing, like the part with the angle of the window being turned from upside down to normal,or the one in which the son sleeps under the table and watches the shadows on the wall.
The beast is only off screen, and the only horror element in it,is in the kid's dream, once!
There's a few plot lines which go nowhere, like with the old man and the 'boy'.
The little girl is sick the whole time, coughing, which made me think whenever she coughed she had tuberculosis , but nobody seems to mind,as SPOILER her brother takes her into the cold and rainy weather for a whole day, without proper clothes!
The father has these weird human-spider puppets he rarely entertains the kids with.
The twist at the end is bad. What kind of father would do that ?!
The soundtrack was good,it had an eerie vibe when it let itself known, although not much happened.
The visual effects were good.
The movie is under thriller or horror, but I assure you,it's not. This has also been labeled 'a coming of age story',but I just don't see it!
The movie is for rent / sale on Amazon Prime Video.
Rating : The horror, The HORROR!
