Based on the Art Bell and Whitley Strieber 1999 book, “The coming global superstorm”, the movie was co-written, co-produced and directed by Roland Emmerich.

Jack, and his colleagues, Frank and Jason, are paleoclimatologists working for the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and drill for ice core samples in the Larsen Ice Shelf, on the East Coast of the Antarctic Peninsula.

As they do this, the ice shelf starts to fall apart, creating cliffs revealing the water deep down underneath.

At the global warming conference in New Delhi, it’s snowing, and Jack doesn’t manage to convince the world leaders of the seriousness of the situation.

In Tokyo, a hailstorm starts, with big ice rocks (the size of a book or bottle), k1lling people.

Jack is an absent father (because his work is more important), who’s wife is telling him about how his A student son is failing a class, and how he enrolled in an academic decathlon for a girl.

The astronauts on the International Space Station see 3 gigantic storm clouds on top of Siberia, Europe and Canada.

While on the plane, Jack’s son, Sam, who is afraid of flying, goes through the scare of his life, as a storm is creating chaos on the plane.

While in New York, for the decathlon, it’s raining the whole time, a tsunami hitting the city, flooding the ground floors of the buildings! Jack and his friends take shelter with other people in the New York Public Library.

In Los Angeles tornadoes destroy the city.

When talking to his father on a landline phone, as the cellulars are down, Sam is told by Jack to stay inside and keep warm, as a superstorm is coming. Jack also tells him that he is coming to get him.

Sam’s mother is a pediatrician, and stays behind with a kid who has cancer, waiting for the ambulance, as everybody at the hospital leaves.

People north of the border start flooding the Mexican border asking for shelter, as in Mexico the weather is the same as always.

The movie started well, but lost me. First of all, it all came from nowhere. It just started happening all of a sudden, with no warning. After, all of a sudden, again, everything starts to freeze, and apparently the freeze doesn’t last long, as they can go outside! When the sudden freeze happens, the buildings freeze, outside and inside, but the people inside, although we see the frost taking over, are fine!!! There’s ice inside, but the people are fine!!! Do you understand?! The buildings freeze, but people don’t!! Do you understand how cold it must be for the buildings to freeze?! Yet the people are in their autumn clothes!

There’s a scene in which the helicopters freeze, and crash, but the people inside are fine, they survived the crash, and they only freeze when they breathe the outside air, although their helicopter collapsed because it froze, and they tell us is minus hundred or thousand degrees Fahrenheit !!!

People keep on taking their gloves off in the freezing winter, and their hands don’t get stuck to the metal and blister. None of them got frost bites!!!

The characters who aren’t the leads die, the leads, no matter what happens to them, live! They can hold on to a stick in one hand, while hanging from a tall ice cliff, looking down.

The wolves survived in the minus Fahrenheit !!!

Also, I always find it amazing how they can tell for certain for how long something happened and when! Like, for example, after they drill the ice shelf, they find out an ice age which lasted 200 years existed 10.000 years ago! How did you come to that conclusion?! It doesn’t make any sense!

They’re also telling us a global warming can trigger a global winter! Make it make sense y’all!

The Northern Hemisphere is all frozen, under ice, but the rest of the world is the same as always!!! Nothing happened there!

This movie was like 2012, but with ice, and not as good. Although, this also has an absent father trying to get to his kid (and I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of this kind of plot).

The acting was fine.

The soundtrack was Ok.

The visual effects were good. The only good thing about the movie are the destruction scenes.

The movie took a year to film.

The movie holds ratings from critics and the audience of under 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic with a 6.4 user score, and a 6.5 rating on IMBD.

Cinema Score audiences graded the movie a B.

The movie grossed 552.6 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 125 million dollars, being the 6th highest grossing movie of the year 2004.
