The grand tour

Year of release : 1992

Run time : 1h39min

Genre : Sci Fi / Thriller

Cast : Jeff Daniels

The movie is based on the 1946 novella 'Vintage Season',written by Catherine L. Moore and Henry Kuttner under the pseudonym Lawrence O'Donnell .

The movie is apparently called The Grand Tour : Disaster in Time and is also under the title Timescape!

The movie starts with a dream the lead,Ben, has,of the death of his wife, something which haunts him for more than one reason.

Ben is renovating his inn, and a group of people come seeking lodging. They talk differently than how usual people do,and in the end convince him to live for a few days at his inn. The woman in charge of the group is talking as if she's a tour guide, and they keep on talking about the 'spectacle'.

For a few nights there's a meteor shower happening in town, and Ben is watching it with his daughter.

We're told Ben has a problem with alcohol, but I don't recall seeing him drinking, while his father in law is trying, and succeeds in taking his daughter away from him,as revenge for his daughter - Ben's wife - dying while he was driving and apparently fled the scene - ,because he is a judge.

Ben soon discovers these people who look like models, are from the future, and due to their present being perfect, they seek disasters,so they are disaster tourists. Which means something bad is about to happen in his town.

I felt the acting was fine, although something was missing..

The visual effects were Ok,although they don't put an emphasis on the disaster.

The soundtrack was filled with Beethoven's Fur Elise in different versions,as it was the song the wife played on piano, and the song the husband and the daughter were obsessed of.

I don't know why,but I didn't find the movie that amazing,it felt something was missing, but I can't put my finger on what.

I thought it was disgusting to seek disasters and watch people die in this kind of way. SPOILERS These people were walking through the disaster scenes as if they were at the parade, watching something entertaining and beautiful,to them it was like the movies! They even had binoculars with them, always using them, even when they were at the scene, marveling about how bad it was,as if it was the most incredible and amazing thing they've seen!

I also didn't like how the lead turned out to have been a coward, running from the place of the accident, when his wife died, although it was obvious he really loved her!Who does that?Who runs away when the one they love are in an accident? And this was a redemption story for him,as he got to save not just his daughter but a lot of the people of the town.
