The movie is based on the 2022 novel of the same name, by Freida McFadden.

Millie comes to an interview for the rich Nina Winchester. She dressed nice, put on a pair of glasses, hoping to get the job, but after talking to her, she doesn’t have high hopes.

Millie sleeps in her car, as she has no place to stay, and it’s winter. Luckily for her, she hears from Nina exactly when 2 police officers told her she can’t sleep in her car.

When going back to the Winchester house, Nina tells her it’s a sleep in job. She shows her their big house, and puts her in a small room in the attic, which has one small window which doesn’t open.

Although when she met her, Nina seems nice, fun, talking a lot, that changes once Millie moves in.

Nina tells her one thing, and then another. Like for example, she told her she is pregnant, and that’s why she needs a housemaid, and then Millie finds out she’s not. She tells Millie when she shows her the house, after she hires her, that she can go into her husband’s man cave, to watch tv, and when she does, she snaps at her, firing her.

When she moves in, the house is a mess, although when she visited it was in perfect order, and Nina tells her she didn’t have time to clean, because she needs to write a PTA speech, so she puts Millie to work right away. When she finally gets into her room, she notices the key is on the outside, not inside. Nina gives her a phone to use and the family credit card.

The next day when she wakes up, Nina is going crazy in the kitchen about her PTA notes, saying Millie took them, when she never even saw her notes.

Nina’s daughter, Cece, doesn’t seem to like Millie, and seems to try to make life hard for her, as she always finds something to complain about, like, a clean glass calling it dirty, and saying how juice is a privilege. The gardener doesn’t seem to like her either. The only one who likes her is Andrew.

Nina told her she could have Saturdays off, but now Nina tells her she can’t, because she missed her hair appointment due to Millie throwing her PTA papers away, which she didn’t .

Millie is on probation, so she’s meeting the probation officer, because she was imprisoned for 10 years for murder. She is out on parole, and if she doesn’t behave, she goes back to prison, to serve the 5 years she has left on her sentence.

When she leaves the offices of her parole officer, Nina calls her to go get her daughter from her ballet lessons without telling her where the place is, and once she gets there, after she looked for her kid through town, she is told Cece spends the night at a friend’s house!

At night, Millie goes downstairs to the man cave, to watch tv, and Andrew shows up. While they are watching tv together, Nina shows up too, freaking out about Millie being there, and asking Andrew to go to sleep, as it’s 2 o’clock in the morning.

When Nina’s friends come to visit, Millie hears them talk about how Nina tried to drown her daughter when she was little, and then k1ll herself, and ended up in the mental institution.

Nina takes another Saturday from Millie, and Millie uses this opportunity to look though her things, finding out she takes pills for schizophrenia or acute psychosis.

Playing with Cece, she sees the girl took her troll, meaning she‘s been through her room.

Nina gives her the clothes she doesn’t want to wear anymore, only to accuse her after of stealing them.

She then asks her to get her some tickets for some show, and then turns around saying she never asked her such things, and she’ll have to pay from her wage.

Andrew convinces her not to take her paycheck, as the tickets were very expensive, and when Nina goes out of town with Cece, he takes Millie to the show.

Millie ends up spending the night at a hotel with Andrew.

In the morning she sees Nina sent her messages and called her all evening. The last one said she was fired.

Back home, when Nina gets back, she seems fine, and sends her to buy groceries. While out, one of Nina’s friends tells her the phone Nina gave her tracks her, and not just that, she can see everything she does on it.

Nina gave her her car to go buy groceries, only to call the cops on her for stealing it!

Andrew saves her, and when she gets home, Nina has a fit ,firing her for sleeping with her man. Andrew throws Nina out.

After, Millie seems to live in heaven with Andrew, until she breaks his mother’s plate, and she doesn’t wash it ( as he said he has someone who could fix it, so she should put it in a bag).

Andrew drugs her drink, and when she wakes up everything in her room is gone, and she’s locked in the attic.

Andrew comes to give her a piece of the plate she broke, and tell her he’s gonna release her after she made 20 deep cuts on her belly, for there were 20 pieces of the broken plate.

I personally enjoyed the movie, but it takes too long to actually start. The action starts after an hour. Until then, Nina just seems off her rocker, and the husband a gem.

Cece was talking like Andrew when it came to the privilege stuff, thing he probably got from his mother, based on what she says at the end. Probably the reason Andrew was the way he was, was that his mother did to him when he was a kid, what he did to the women as a grown up.

After Andrew pulls a 180 on Millie, we see Nina and her story, and find out appearances can be deceiving.

Nina is always wearing white.

I liked the Winchester house, inside and out. Outside it looked like a fairy tale house.

One thing that bothered me is that they keep on saying Andrew is attractive, but I don’t like the actor at all. They say the same thing about the guy Millie k1lled, and he looks even worse! I think Michele Morrone should have played Andrew.

Another one is, SPOILER that Andrew locked Nina up in the attic because she didn’t dye her hair roots, but her hair looks the same now, without the dyed roots. He’s Ok with it now?!

The acting was fine. Most of the time Nina seems insane.

The movie received positive reviews , and grossed a little over 400 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 35 million dollars.

Cinema Score audiences graded the movie a B.

I noticed the movie is labelled as erotic thriller, but I didn’t see anything of the sort.

Rating : Could have been a contender !
