The movie is the sequel to the 2008 movie, “The inhabited island : Dark Planet”, and continues the story from right where it was left off.
After Max was stranded on the Saraksh planet, and got to meet and befriend quite a few good people there, he made it his mission to help them escape the rule of the Unknown Fathers who control everyone with rays sent by towers and mobile units.
The people who can’t be controlled are called weird or degenerates and are hunted and k1lled. The irony is, the Unknown Fathers are also “degenerates”.
Max is unaffected by the rays, as on earth, in the XXII nd century, people learnt how to harness the body’s power.
The Unknown Fathers get ready to attack a neighboring country, at the recommendation of one of their own, Umnik.
At the same time, Roamer, the head of the Special Research Department, is looking for Max, to study him, along with Umnik, known as Genius, the ruler of the state department, who also wants him for his own gain.
Max crosses the borders, hoping he’ll find someone to help him. He takes Gai with him, who’s brainwashed by the rays emitted by the towers, and fights him, as he wants to go back. Max tells him the truth, that all his passion for his beliefs comes from the towers, he’s just a puppet in their hands. Gai almost sho0ts himself hearing the news, disenchanted, trying to stay brainwashed (maybe it was a side effect of the programming trying to "save itself").
They meet the mutants who leave outside the borders controlled by the Unknown Fathers, who have health problems due to the radiation emitted by the towers. Their prince wants Gai to stay and become the new ruler, as he’s dying. Gai refuses, disenchanted, now knowing the truth about the lie he lived in.
Asking the prince for help, he wants to, but needs the approval of the others, who refuse, being too afraid and weak.
Max decides to go to the wizard, who tells him to talk to the Empire.
Leaving the mutants, the prince gives them a map, telling them their area is surrounded by towers which transmit continuously, and gives them his bomber which once belonged to the king.
Flying across the tower, Gai receives the transmission, and gets the urge to fight and die for Max.
They crash land in water, and Max finds the white submarine he was told about, as he thinks the people there can help. Gai is afraid to get onboard due to the transmissions, but he eventually does, when he screams after Max,seeing he took too long on board of the ship, and he doesn’t answer.
They realize they are just as bad as the Unknown Fathers (it might have been the exact thing the Unknown Fathers came in with).
Coming back on land, they are caught by a patrol, sent to jail, then pardoned and recruited into war.
Umnik gets his guards to bring Rada to him, lying to her he wants to help Max, asking her to help him find him, and she refuses. So he puts her in prison.
Roamer sends his trusted man to release her.
I personally enjoyed the movie. Max is a likeable character, he makes it his mission to save the people of this planet which became now his own, as he can’t leave.
Gai turns out to be a really nice person, who is a true friend to Max, protecting him, just as Max does with him. He gets hit with the brainwashing rays a few times, and goes crazy with his “chants” saying how willing he is to put his life down for Max, and does it in the end.
The Unknown Fathers are not so different from the people of the earth, actually some of them, if not all, came from earth with the intent to rule the planet, hence the rays’ inability to affect them.
Every actor held their own. Vasili Stepanov, who played Max, was good. The actor who played the prince of the mutants, again, was great. I thought Pyotr Fyodorov was the best, as he had these scenes in which he was going insane, saying how ready he is to d1e for Max.
Once again, I liked the world created, the set design, the costumes. There are many characters with their own quirks and agendas.
The soundtrack was good.
The visual effects were good.
PS – the movie poster, although it says Dark Planet, the things depicted on it are from this movie, Rebellion.
