The life before her eyes

Year of release : 2007

Run time : 1h30m

Genre : Pyshoclogical Drama

Cast : Uma Thurman, Evan Rachel Wood, Oscar Isaac

The movie is based on Laura Kasischke's novel of the same name.

The movie opens with best friends Diana and Maureen going to school, entering the bathroom first. Maureen hears commotion, and soon, one of their peers enters the bathroom with a mach1ne g@n, asking them to choose which one of them should live.

15 years later, Diana lives with "survivor guilt" her perfect life in suburbia.

She has a daughter she enrolled in a Catholic school, afraid what happened to her might happen at the school her daughter goes to.

She has a husband who loves her and whom she loves.

Her teenage years blend in with the present, and we see she lived her life carelessly, with dr@gs and s3x,not getting along with her mother, and hating school, while her friend was pretty conservative, her parents being very religious, and going to church.

The movie bored me, and I counted the minutes until it ended. Pay attention to what they say when they are teenagers, because it makes sense when you see what happens in her adult life.

As a teenager she talked about naming her child Emma, if she ever had one, and we then find out she had an abortion which led to complications, after her child, Emma ,tells her she knows she hates her and never wanted her!

The woman she sees her husband on the street with, wears the same bracelets as she does, and looks like her younger self!

I only liked the reveal, but it wasn't much of a reveal, as you can figure it out, pretty quickly.

I liked the way the movie was shot, it looked so beautiful, visually. The colors were beautiful, the lightning..her house is beautiful, she has this beautiful garden filled with flowers, there's poplar tree cotton in the air..it really gives the feeling of perfect life or dream.

The soundtrack written by James Horner who wrote the music for Titanic, was serene, and matched the dreamy vibe of the movie.

I didn't like the acting from Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood, when they had to act scared or crying, it looked like they didn't have range. The actress who played their mother, who was pretty much a cameo, did a much better job!

The movie received negative reviews from critics who liked the acting (!), but hated the ending!

The movie grossed 7.2 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 13 million, being a flop.

Rating : Could have been a contender !
