The movie is based on the first novel of the epic series by J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings, entitled "The fellowship of the ring",published in 1954.

The story starts with the forging of the great rings: 3 were given to the elves, 7 to the lords of the dwarves, 9 to mankind, rings which hold the desire in them to govern each race. But,in the land of Mordor,in the fires of Mount Doom, the dark lord Sauron created a secret master ring, to control all the other rings. The ring holds Sauron's evil, malice, the will to dominate all life.

This hunger for power started a war,and soon, the races came together to fight for freedom of Middle Earth.

Just when they thought all hope was lost, Isildur cut the fingers of Sauron, and without the ring, his armies were defeated, and him gone.

Isildur refused to destroy the ring, craving power, and the ring brought upon his doom. The ring found a new owner, the creature Gollum, consuming him,at the same time prolonging his life for 500 years.

When time came, the ring abandoned Gollum, and unintentionally was picked up by a hobbit,(hobbits are a race of little people with hairy feet who never wear shoes) ,Bilbo Baggins.

Bilbo is a historian, and at the moment our story begins is his birthday, he turns 111! He doesn't quite like people, especially his relatives, who want his house. He only likes Frodo,a kid he adopted when his parents died.

The wizzard Gandalf, loved by all in the shire, especially the children, comes to visit the shire for his birthday . He realizes Bilbo has the Ring of Power after Bilbo pulls a disappearing act.

He tells Bilbo he can't keep the ring, and after a lot of work of convincing,he leaves it to Frodo.

Gandalf tells Frodo to leave the shire for Bree, and meet him at the Prancing Pony. As Sam is eavesdropping, Gandalf is telling him to join Frodo and take care of him, something Sam holds on to throughout the movie. They are joined by two more hobbits who ran into them while chased by the man who's crops they were stealing.

Gandalf goes to seek council from the head of his order, Saruman, but he soon discovers Saruman joined forces with Sauron,as she thinks Sauron can't be defeated( yet,he's the one building his army! So without him,I don't think Sauron would have gone far!)

At the inn the hobbits discover another friend, who saves them from the wraiths of the former kings, ring bearers, now consumed by the power of the ring, bound to Sauron.

Fleeing and seeking refuge at night, they are found by the same wraiths and Frodo uses the ring, being wounded by one of them.

This mystery man who bound his destiny to theirs,is trying to take them to the elf land,to save Frodo, who wounded by the weapon of the wraith has no other faith but death and becoming a wraith himself.

Once saved, and in the elf land, the hobbits find out the mystery man is Aragorn, the descendant of Isildur ,who refuses to take the throne due to the ring's evil powers.

Aragorn is in love with Arwen, who wants to become mortal to live with him.

At a gathering concerning the ring, they decide that Frodo should keep it and take it to Mount Doom, and throw it into its fire,to be destroyed. Boromir thinks the ring is a gift and he should take it. In the end he is convinced to join Aragorn, the elf Legolas, the dwarf, Gandalf and the four hobbits to Mount Doom.

And so they start a journey into the unknown, in an attempt to stop the evil which is arising into the world.
