The Model is a Danish movie directed and co written by Mads Matthiesen.

Emma is a 16 year old girl who gets the chance to be a model. The movie starts with her saying goodbye to her boyfriend and family in Denmark,and moving to Paris.

On her first photo shoot she makes a bad impression,as the photographer is not impressed with her,as she looks uncomfortable whenever the male model gets close to her.

 

Her room mate,Sofia,another model,who lives with her in an apartment belonging to an older man(who lives in the house with them) tells her in order to meet people (and get gigs) in this business,is to go out,at clubs.

At the club they go to,she meets the photographer who fired her from the job,and almost caused her career to end. She invites him to dance,and they start a kissing session on the dance floor.

The next day she's requested for a photo shoot. The photographer is the same she kissed the night before. He talks to her while on break,and they end up dating.

Problem is,she didn't break up with her Danish boyfriend,who comes to see her .Sofia presses her to go out with her and her Danish boyfriend at the same club she is always with the photographer (this might be a ploy to break them up).

The photographer is there,and her Danish boyfriend finds out she's been cheating. So he leaves. She spends the night with the photographer,at his place.

 

The photographer,Shane by his name, invites her to a party he always goes to,where,apparently,people need to kiss with tongue whoever they are seated next to (eye roll* I'm always disgusted by the level of depravity the rich and famous have.).

There, Shane ignores her the whole night, by talking to his ex,my guess is,as payback for the stunt she pulled with her Danish boyfriend.

At night,going to look for him,she meets a man who works for Chanel,and takes the dr@gs he gives her,ending up having s3x with him.

She has the amazing idea of telling this to Shane,who breaks up with her.

Desperate to get him back,she lies to him she's pregnant. She has the amazing idea to tell Sofia the truth,as Sofia is not her friend,and dates Shane behind her back. In all fairness,what Sofia does is pretty much what Emma does to both men she's dating.

 

What google says the movie is about starts happening after the 1h15minutes marker,and I wouldn't call her obsessed. Is more like,she realizes she effed up,and she loves him,and wants him back,so she keeps on coming up with lies to keep him. Let's not forget this is a kid,after all.

The movie reveals the dark side of the fashion industry,and probably,not only. It was depressing to see the models got gigs depending on who they slept with,or who was interested in them.

 

The actors were good.

The soundtrack was good.

The movie has a shaky camera problem at times,thing which at times made me dizzy,and awkward moments,probably to showcase the realness of the moment.

The movie grossed 27.000 dollars at the box office, and received mixed reviews, the critics complaining about the plot and the fact there was no character development.

Viewer discretion is advised,as the movie contains nudity and mature content.
