The movie is the sequel to the 1999 blockbuster, The Mummy, and was a blockbuster itself, earning 435 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 98 million.
5000 years ago, in Thebes, a fierce warrior, by the name of the Scorpion King, led an army to conquer the world. When he was defeated, and exiled to the desert of Ahm Shere, he offered his soul to Anubis if he gave him the power to defeat his enemies. Anubis took the deal, creating an oasis with a golden pyramid, giving the king his jackal army .
In 1933, Egypt, Evelyn, now married to Rick O'Connell, explores ancient ruins with Rick and their son,Alex,finding the bracelet of Anubis, the same one worn by the Scorpion King.
In London, Alex puts the bracelet on, and it shows him the path to the Ahm Shere oasis.
Their London mansion is under attack,as people (I think it's a cult) who want to resurrect Imhotep are looking for the Book of the Dead and the bracelet of Anubis.
They kidnap Evelyn, and Rick and Jonathan go after her. They manage to free her, but the cult kidnaps their son!
The cult is led by the museum curator and the physical reincarnation of Anck-Su-Namun, Meela Nais.
Evelyn has dreams and visions of a previous life, in which she was the pharaoh Seti's daughter,Nefertiti. She knows how to fight now, and fights alongside her husband.
The O'Connells go see one of Rick's old friends for help, being just one step behind the cult, trying to get their son back.
The once again resurrected Imhotep is regaining his strength fast, and Alex is at odds with one of his guardians and Imhotep himself.
Will Alex's family get to him in time, as if he doesn't reach the inside of the pyramid of Ahm Shere in 7 days since he put the bracelet on, the bracelet will k1ll him!
This was another movie that I enjoyed watching 20 years ago, as it's filled with fun and adventure. There's a few comic reliefs in the movie, including the kid, Alex!
Imhotep is still guided by his everlasting love for Anck-Su-Namun, and now he has some competition from the leading pair, who are always lovey-dovey. Will they pass the test of time and danger? Only one will prevail!
The worlds created, are again, amazing, with their buildings, interiors, clothes, make-up! The movie also has some pretty amazing fighting scenes, the one between Nefertiti and Anck-Su-Namun is my favorite!
SPOILER Movies lose me when they k1ll their characters just to resurrect them a few minutes later!
The actors, some were good, some not so much. I didn't like how the two leads, Rachel Weisz and mostly, Brendan Fraser, acted. The rest of the cast was good.
The visual effects at times are good, at times look cartoonish. They recreate the amazing sand face visual effects , this time in water with Imhotep,and in smoke, with the Scorpion King.
The soundtrack at times was good, as it had Middle Eastern influences, and at times wasn't (in my humble opinion. I don't like it when it sounds classical, like in Star Wars).
