The whole truth
Year of release : 2016
Run time : 1h34m
Genre : Legal Thriller / Crime
Cast : Keanu Reeves, Renee Zellweger, Jim Belushi
Keanu Reeves is Ramsey, a defense attorney, who is hired by a personal friend, Loretta Boone, to work the case of her 17 year old son, who is accused of having murdered his own father, also Ramsey's colleague and friend.
Ramsey is distraught about the fact the kid refuses to speak, so he has to work his case around his silence.
The witnesses paint a not so perfect picture of the family, while they try to protect themselves,to look good in the audience's eyes, while we see what truly happened in the moments they talk about.
Boone seems to have been an awful husband and father by all accounts, having a loud mouth and bad temper, always putting his wife down, even in front of family and friends!
Ramsey and his associate are good at reading people, and they start to grow apart from each other, as Janelle wants to find the truth, while Ramsey wants to get the kid out of jail, which is not gonna be an easy task, since he said in front of the police officer 'I should have done this long ago'.
But maybe there's more to the story, maybe the case is not as clean cut as it looks!
I personally enjoyed the movie, I just wished it was longer.
I was surprised to read the movie was a box office flop, earning almost 2 million dollars against a budget of 7.9 million, as I was thinking it was an original movie which worked!
The acting was good, especially from Renee Zellweger . I thought Keanu was miscast, because although I've seen him playing a lawyer before, doing a wonderful job (see 'The devil's advocate'), it felt he couldn't enter the skin of this character. He just looked stiff and uncomfortable in the role.
The soundtrack was good.
