The witches

Year of release : 1990

Run time : 1h32min

Genre : Fantasy

Cast : Anjelica Houston

The movie is based on the book of the same name, written in 1983,by Roald Dahl.

The movie starts with Luke's grandmother, telling him what we think to be a story about witches, which turns out to be true.

The boy's parents die in a car accident, and he moves to UK with his grandmother. There, he has his first encounter with a witch with a snake who is determined to give him a chocolate he doesn't want.

As they go on a trip, the hotel they stay at is visited by a group of women who have a convention there, and who turn out to be witches.

The action of this one takes place in Norway I think, and the UK.

The visual effects were good for that era.

I liked the acting,it was great,I loved Angelica Houston and her accent! Mr.Bean is in it.

SPOILERS

I liked this movie more than the remake, mostly because this one has a happy ending,Bruno is accepted by his family unlike in the remake, and in the end the assistant of the Grand Witch turns the lead back into a boy as a Thank You for releasing her from under the Grand Witch's rule.

The shocker comes as I find out the remake is actually following the book,as the book didn't have a happy ending and director Nicolas Roeg and producer Jim Henson decided the ending was too dark,so they created the 'good witch'.

Rating : Worth a watch !
