Molly is a woman in her early 20's who never worked a day in her life, and who has lived off the trust fund of her late rock star father, who died in a plane crash with her mother, when she was 8 years old.
Molly falls fast, so she falls for a rocker, who sings at her birthday party. Rocker brought by one of her best friends, who works for a record label, the artist wants to sign for.
Whatever Molly wants, she gets, so the man is easily persuaded by her to go home with her, although he says he is in a programme in which he can't have s3x. They spend many days and nights locked in her apartment, to the point, she has enough of him, and asks her friend to help her get rid of him.
Her wish comes true, when she comes out of the bathroom she made the phone call in, as the man is over it, and says he can't live like this, and walks out. Because he walked out on her, she wants him again.
When they got to her place, her electricity was out, but somehow, he could play the electric guitar, and they could watch tv!
Her best friend, who comes to see her, as she cries over the man she wanted out, but he left on his own, sees all the final notice letters she received the past months, and finds out her electricity and gas have been canceled. Molly tells her, her father's accountant, Bob, pays all her bills.
Talking to her lawyer, she finds out Bob, who had 10 other clients, embezzled all of their money, and now they are penniless.
Her lawyer tells her to get a job.
Her friend,Ingrid, finds her a job, but she wasted her nights, so she went to sleep at work (in the bed they had set up for clients), and they fire her.
Her other friend, finds her a job as a nanny for a 8 year old girl who is a hypochondriac, and who's mother is a record executive.
The girl is very smart for her age, is anti social, has a bedroom in perfect order and wants to be a ballerina. We find out her father has been in a coma for a while, and her mother is always working, missing all her school and ballet events, so maybe that's why she's the way she is, to protect herself.
I personally found the lead a bit annoying and unlikeable, as she has no skills, and although her parents died when she was a kid, she is very spoiled. She uses her friends, and when they ask for one small thing in return, she refuses to help. Ingrid helped her throughout : she discovered she didn't pay her bills, she went with her to her lawyer, she found her a job she couldn't keep because she was lazy, offers her a place to stay with her, and tells her she must pay rent, and later on she ditches on Ingrid to go on a date with a guy she just met, saying being friends doesn't mean she owns (not owe) her, and she must do what she wants,as friends don't ask you for rent. If she didn't ask for rent, she wouldn't have found a job, she would have partied like she always does, sleeping all day, leaving the place a mess!
When Ingrid throws her out, her other friend takes her in, and helps her with everything. She is like a child!
When Ingrid finds her a job, instead of thinking she has no money and has to keep it, she buys Egyptian cotton sheets (1370 dollars!) with the money she doesn't have (she will get an employee's discount of 10% off) for her boyfriend.I think it was supposed to be funny, due to the music, but it was just annoying!
She almost burnt down Ingrid's house, and tried to put out the fire with her man's favorite and lucky jacket, destroying it!!
After, a few rockers who played themselves loved the embellished jacket she created (I thought it was hideous) and ask her to make something like that for them too!
It feels the movie doesn't know what it wants to be, as it's labeled a comedy, and it has its funny moments, but the little girl's father dies, not to mention, Molly talks a lot about her dead parents, which makes it a drama.
The movie has heart, through the two leads, who befriend, and start caring for each other.
The actors were fine.
Rapper Nas, Dave Navarro, singer Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray, and I think, Carmen Electra (she is filmed from a side and the back), make cameo appearances, playing themselves.
The soundtrack was Ok, the songs written for the movie weren't bad.
The movie grossed 44.6 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 30 million.
The movie received negative reviews on its release. The positive reviews on the net are still low with brutal scores, 13% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 33% on Metacritic.
Cinema Score audiences graded the movie an A-!
