Claire and her husband Norman, are taking her daughter from her first marriage to college. Claire finds it hard to separate from her as they were so close. At the same time, she spies on their next door neighbors, who fight all the time, and have passionate s3x.

Weird things start happening to Claire when she's alone, like a picture keeps on falling off, until she finds a key dropped in the ventilation system, the front door keeps on opening before she touches it, and she sees a woman's reflection in the water.

Claire and Norman seem to have a pretty good healthy relationship, until we hear that she had a car accident one year ago, that Claire doesn't seem to remember.

Claire keeps on spying on the neighbors after she had a conversation with the wife, who was crying, and then disappeared. Because of all the things happening to her, she thinks the man murdered his wife (due to the fact she saw him putting a rug looking like a body was wrapped in it, in the trunk of his car,in the middle of the night while it was pouring raining), and it's her haunting her. Turns out the woman is fine, and she's just weird, as she says she loves him too much, so she has panic attacks, and leaves him!

When she goes with Norman to the same party they went the year before, the hostess asks her how is she, considering the year before she was distraught and broke a glass. That's when Claire starts remembering more details about the accident, and a woman, but she still can't remember things clearly. She does find the woman's name, and goes to her mother's place, when she finds her name in the missing persons website. And steals a lock of her hair.

I personally enjoyed the movie, I loved how it was filmed, the angles, and everything.

I liked its vibe, I miss that vibe the thriller / horror movies of the early 2000's had!

The places they filmed at were beautiful, their house, inside and out. Apparently the exteriors were constructed on location, while the interiors were shot on sound stages in Los Angeles!

The title of the movie might come from the secrets this family buried, like the trouble in their marriage which went away, with the wife's amnesia, and the calm waters surrounding the property and the dark secrets it covered. It also goes to show how we only know about someone as much as they show us (only as much as they want us to know), most of them being hidden, even when that someone is a spouse.

The acting was good from everyone involved, the best being Michelle Pfeiffer.

The soundtrack was good, haunting.

The visual effect were great, they still stand the test of time!

The movie received mixed reviews, and grossed 291.4 million dollars at the box office, against a budget of 100 million, being the 10th highest grossing movie of the year 2000.

Cinema Score audiences graded the movie a B+.

The movie was nominated for quite a few awards, and won about half of them.

Director Robert Zemeckis and the filming crew filmed the movie while on a break from filming Cast Away with Tom Hanks, while Hanks was losing weight and growing a beard.
