The movie is based on the 2002 comic book series of the same name, written by Steve Niles and illustrated by Ben Templesmith.

Barrow, one of the most northernmost towns in Alaska, prepares for the 30 days of night, also known as the polar night.

A stranger which came from a large ship cuts down the power and the communications grid. He also k1lls the dogs of a couple.

The sheriff is called to investigate, and finds it strange that so many things start happening in one evening.

The sheriff's estranged wife is in town, that he doesn't know about. She calls him after she has been in an accident , as she needs to get to the airport fast, as it's the last flight out for a month.

Hearing that she's been in town for a while without calling him, he sends his colleague to get her.

She misses the flight and is stuck in Barrow for a month.

That is the least of her worries, as people in town start dying, as they are hunted by what seems to be people.

Soon is discovered the ones hunting the people of the town are vampires who were helped by a "familiar" who wanted to become one of them.

The few remaining people hide in the police station, but decide to move to an attic which is hidden, as the vampires started going through people's houses k1lling everyone inside.

The movie started well, but it soon started to lose me, as the vampires have their own invented by the creators, "vampire language" which doesn't have translations, and k1ll without rhyme or reason. They are just mindless animals (who look human) who hunt in packs, and once they descend upon this town, just start k1lling everyone left and right, exactly like hungry animals, without even finishing their meal, which to me it felt like they were careless with their food, as instead of trying to make sure it would last them for a long time, the way one would do with provisions, they are interested in the instant gratification, and just k1ll everyone for the sake of k1lling,like a kid who tries everything put on the table without finishing anything. Most of the time they were shown just k1lling people, letting them bleed to death. I understand their need to feed, but they were just k1lling them.

I also hated how they really are portrayed like some animal breed, as they don't wash up, they stay dirty and covered in blood the whole time (their faces are always covered in blood),they move like wild animals and screech as such!

The ones who turn into vampires just need to be bitten like with zombies ! I don't even know the rules, as not all of them turned, but there was no blood exchange like it happens with vampires.

The vampire blood apparently doesn't coagulate, as Ebon took a syringe of it and injected it in himself!..

At the end, Ebon, the lead, fights the leader, who, I'm guessing, was supposed to be the strongest, and k1lls him. That fight scene was ridiculous.

Also, time goes by fast, we go from day one, to day 7, to day 18.

The acting was good, I liked the two leads, Josh Hartnett and Melissa George.

The soundtrack was good, it has some unique sounds.

The visual effects were good.

The movie received mixed reviews, and grossed 75.5 million dollars at the box office against a budget of 30 million.

Cinema Score audiences graded the movie a C.

The movie has tv prequel and sequel mini series, a sequel, Darker Days, and 6 novels based on it.
