The movie is based on the 2002 novel of the same name, by Jerker Virdborg.
The movie opens with our lead, Edh, in the car with her daughter, as the tunnel they are in is attacked by what seems to be terr0rists. This impending doom scene wakes our lead up, and we see she is a soldier now.
She is told by a lieutenant he'll take her to the base, but actually takes her to a dangerous neighborhood and lives her there (not really sure what happened, the refugees attacked her and she had to fight them, in the end driving away)
She arrives at the base and there is told by the colonel that she was recruited for a special mission, along with 3 other men. They have to take 2 canisters across the Stockholm Archipelago to the research base, Odo, in order to win the war, as the enemy who's never named is winning.
Seeing Edh doesn't want to go, saying it's a suicide mission, the colonel tells her her daughter is at the research base.
Now Edh tells the men they have to do their duty, as she wants to reunite with her daughter.
The lieutenant who left her stranded joins them too, along with the woman who briefed them, and they leave as their base is under attack.
They put on their skates, and start skating across the Archipelago.
On their path they walk on thin ice, and the only other woman with them (who was also their commanding officer) falls through and drowns. Edh goes in after her to take the canisters she was carrying in the backpack. This leaves Edh with frost bites on her toes, and they find an empty house they seek shelter in, making a fire, so Edh won't freeze to death.
The next morning, a helicopter discovers them, shooting at them, and Edh sees one of the members of their group talking on the radio, thinking he was talking to the enemy, but he confesses he was talking to his girlfriend, whose station they think destroyed by the enemy.
Our team must make it through not only the ice cold Nordic winter, the treacherous ice, but also the enemy who's always one step behind them.
I personally enjoyed the movie, it was original, and most of it happens on the ice, as the leads skate to the lab. The visuals were beautiful, the frozen water is scary and haunting. The colors were beautiful, the cinematography was good.
We only see things from our lead's perspective, her team, and no one else. We don't really know what's happening in the world, and that can be claustrophobic for some.
I watched a dubbed version, Noomi Rapace dubbed her own voice in English.
I liked how they blended scenes with her daughter through dreams she has at night, dreams which wake her up, sometimes when they're in danger, as if to warn her about it,- it glues the movie together with the heart and soul of it.
One thing that bothered me is that we don't know what war this is, they keep on talking about refugees, and refer to the ones they are fighting as 'the enemy'. The enemy always wears white camouflage as it's winter, and even their faces are covered in white masks.
The title of the movie is the name of their mission.
I guess the acting was good, considering I watched a dubbed version, and except for Noomi Rapace who dubbed her own voice, I don't really know how the other actors sounded.
The soundtrack was great.
The visual effects were great.
The movie is for 30 days free on Amazon Prime Video, and on Netflix and Netflix Basic with Ads, with subscription.
