The movie is based on the Marvel comic book character Blade, from the comic book of the same name, written by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. It is the sequel to the movie Blade II, and the 3d in the Blade franchise.
The movie was written and directed by David S. Goyer, who also wrote the previous Blade movies.
The movie opens with Danica Talos and her vampires looking for the tomb of Drake / Dracula, the first vampire (born in ancient Sumer), in the Syrian Desert, as the myth says he can walk in daylight and was worshipped as a god. They find him, but he doesn’t seem to like being disturbed.
Blade is hunting vampires and their human familiars. The last vampire he k1lls turns out to be one of their familiars, used to frame Blade as a psycho.
Danica films Blade with their familiar and sends the recording to the press.
Soon, the FBI find Blade’s hideaway, and Blade and Whistler destroy it so nothing can be found about what they’re doing there. Whistler dies in one of the explosions he triggers, but Blade is taken into custody by the FBI.
When he is interrogated he realizes the psychiatrist is a familiar who calls him psychotic (although Blade didn’t say a word, the “psychiatrist” did all the talking) so he wants him transferred to a psychiatric facility, so his band of vampires could k1ll him.
The chief of FBI is a familiar.
In the meantime, Dracula drinks a lot of blood, k1lling a lot of people, thinking himself a warrior with honor!
As the psychiatrist drugs Blade, Abigail Whisler and Hannibal King come to the rescue, getting him out of there, and k1lling a lot of vampires.
They take him to their base, but Blade is not impressed with them, although they saved him and they do research on how to destroy the vampires and cure the ones who want to become human again.
Hannibal is proof of that, as he used to be a vampire, turned by Danica, whom he dated for 5 years.
Although Dracula didn’t want anything to do with Danica’s plans, he joins them once he hears about Blade.
Blade with Abigail and Hannibal go to the psychiatrist’s office, but they find Dracula there, shapeshifted as the psychiatrist, as he k1lled him, saying that he served his purpose.
Trying to sho0t him, Dracula grabs Hannibal and stabs him, running through the window. Blade follows him.
Sommerfield, the scientist working with the Nightstalkers, Abigail and Hannibal’s team, finds out where the vampires are working, as they have quite a few facilities around.
Blade and Abigail go to one, and find a vampire there with the chief of the FBI. They discover is a human blood harvesting facility, and the chief of the FBI says the vampires are doing people who are put in a coma to have their blood endlessly harvested, a favor, and the country a service, being better this way!
Blade k1lls the chief of the FBI, and asks the familiar working there to shut down the program harvesting blood.
In retaliation Drake comes to their headquarters, k1lling Sommerfield and kidnapping her daughter and Hannibal.
The movie was Ok, I didn’t like it much, but I didn’t hate it either. I think the plot could have been better.
I didn’t like the fact Dracula looked like the predator in the Predator movies. Also, the bad vampires made vampire dogs hybrids ( why?! ) and they look like the dogs in Resident Evil!
Ryan Reynolds looked great but his character was annoying, picking on everyone for no reason. I really hated his lines, he speaks like Deadpool. Allegedly, Wesley Snipes didn’t like that either about Ryan’s character.
I also didn’t like the narration by Ryan Reynolds.
I usually like the female villains because they are beautiful and sexy, they are stylish and I like how they are acting. Not this time. I hated Danica Talos. I hated her clothes, her whole look, and the way she acted, like a bored, spoiled kid .
Speaking of costumes, I hated all their outfits, except for Blade’s and Hannibal King’s. I found Dracula’s hideous.
The acting was good.
I didn’t like the soundtrack except for the end credits song. To me it felt it didn’t match anything on screen.
Speaking of which, Abigail is always making a playlist she fights to, when she fights vampires, but how can she hear them (knowing where they are) and is able to fight them, with the music in her ears?
The visual effects were so and so, I think they could have been better.
The movie grossed 132 million dollars at the box office against a budget of 65 million dollars.
The movie received mixed reviews (under 40% score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes and Metascore, and under 60% from the audience ) and was graded a B+ by the Cinema Score audiences.
Viewer discretion is advised, as the movie contains violence and mature language.
Rating : Could have been a contender !
