This movie is a sequel to the movie The Shinning, the Jack Nicholson one, which I hated .It's also based on the 2013 horror novel by Stephen King.

From what I understood years ago,the 1980's Shinning wasn't to Stephen King's liking,so they made the 1997 mini series with Rebecca De Mornay and Steven Weber which I loved, and which actually stayed true to the book.

If you actually watched the mini series(which Stephen King penned and said were true to the book, unlike Kubrick's Shining) and know how it ends, this movie, which takes Danny back to the past, makes no sense.

Now an adult, Danny has followed the same path his drunken father did, becoming a drunk who sleeps around with strangers ( the first time we see him he wakes up next to a woman who vomited on the  sheets, who did cocaine and who had a baby, then he finds out she was dead and the kid died too as the neighbors were used to his crying!) he still has the shinning, and still sees ghosts.

He was taught by his friend,Dick, to lock the visitors from the Overlook hotel in boxes in his head to keep them away.

He takes the decision to become a better person so he moves to a quiet town, where he befriends the man who helps him get sober and a doctor who gives him a job.

At the hospital he works there's a cat who knows when people are gonna die,and sits on their bed when their time is near. This is how Danny becomes Doctor Sleep,as he makes a habit out of talking to the people the cat visits and talks them into the forever sleep.

He starts being 'visited' by a kid who has a very strong shine,a kid who talks to him through a painted wall. One day,the girl tells him she saw this group of people who kidnapped a boy, then tortured him, inhaling his steam, what Danny knew as the shine.

Convinced by Dick, who visits him now as a ghost,he decides to help the girl find those entities and kill them.

The acting was great, everybody was amazing,I loved in particular, the leading actors,Ewan,Rebecca and Kyliegh.

The visual effects were great. I loved the visual effects in the scenes in which Abra tracks down Rosie the Hat,and then Rosie tracks her, entering her dream.

Now,what I didn't like,SPOILER,was the fact in this one his father was still a mind prisoner of the hotel and a ghost in it. Which,at the end of the miniseries was shown as not possible,as the father is present at his graduation, proud of him I might add, which means he escaped the mind control of the ghosts and the magnetism of the hotel.
