The movie opens with Joe desperately trying to get to his wife, who is working with the Red Cross in Venezuela.

Her bus gets stuck in the mud while heavy raining, and we find out she died in the accident, the bus being hit by rocks which fell from a cliff, falling into the river.

They cannot find her body, as the bus is under 10 feet of water, and Joe has a formal funeral for her.

Joe is sad and depressed, as one would be, and doesn't want to take time off from work, although everybody tells him to.

In order to stay at the hospital, for his boss keeps on telling him to take a sabbatical, he finally decides to visit the kids at the oncology unit. Most of them are dead or released, and one of them is being brought to the ER right when he visits, and Joe can swear he heard the kid screaming for him while he was clinically dead!

When he comes back ,the kid tells him he saw his wife in the light, and sent him back with a message for Joe, showing him a curvy cross. Joe doesn't know what that is, and the kid can't tell him.

Another kid tells him he dreamt about her when in a coma, being brought to the hospital, and he has the same curvy cross on the wall.

At the same time, Joe deals with supernatural things happening to him, as he starts seeing dragonflies all the time, items he puts somewhere, are back into their place once he left the room, the same curvy cross drawn in their home, and their parrot, Big Bird, announces his wife the way he used to when she used to come home!

I personally enjoyed the movie. This is one of my favorite movies from 20 years ago. I liked the atmosphere, the autumn colors, the dragonfly theme and items, the way the buildings looked, their home.

I liked the love he felt for her, the way he spoke about her being his soul mate.

I didn't quite like the wife, who could very well care for the sick kids at the Chicago hospital, instead of leaving while pregnant to a secluded village where the Amazon natives were living!

I did like her passion for dragonflies, and I liked the unique items they had with dragonflies. And her birthmark,of a dragonfly, which ran in her family.

Another thing that bothered me was they said the boss was an a*hole, but he just seemed concerned.

The acting was good.

The soundtrack was good.

The visual effects were good.

Dragonfly was a critical and box office failure, as the critics gave it negative reviews and it grossed only 52.3 million dollars against a budget of 60 million.

Despite all this, an Indian remake of the movie was made in 2003, Saaya.

Rating : Worth a watch !
