In 1987,Alan and his friend,Javier, are on a plane to New York. Alan's mind drifts 14 years back, when he worked as a cabana boy at a beach resort.
One day, while doing his job, he sees a beautiful woman coming out of the sea,and falls in love with her at first sight.
The woman is married to a tycoon, Mark Brice, but he pursues her, and she accepts to go out with him, starting an affair.
After a few days, she goes home with her husband.
Alan follows her and makes her continue the affair.
She goes to church, confessing to a priest about the affair, and has the amazing idea of telling her husband about it. Although I don’t think she told him the whole story, because he tells her he'll take care of it. His idea of taking care of it, is to put him in jail for harassment.
Seeing Alan keeps on sending her love sick letters (I loved what he wrote to her, that he could feel her with him and in everything. That’s real love!), the husband arranges for him to be k1lled.
Alan survives with his face disfigured, and decides to make money from a life of crime, and get vengeance. He takes a job and assumes the identity of the man he k1lls,Manuel Esquema.
Back to the present 1987, Alan as Manuel, is meeting the love of his life's husband (the man who tried to have him killed) who has serious legal problems, as Mark thinks Manuel can help him out of them.
This was one of my favorite movies growing up.
I liked the world they created, and still liked Gretchen Mol's outfits. And it still made me cry.
Alan fell hard for Ella, and can’t forget her even after 14 years.
I honestly don’t know why Ella told her husband about him. Alan wanted to live with her, and hoped she’d divorce her husband, but she didn’t want to live a poor life, as she said she had no skills. And Alan wanted her to live with him in this rented room with a sink in it, and the paint peeling off the walls. When she realizes Mark had his men k1ll him she starts drinking.
Mark is given the impression Alan stalks Ella after they had an affair while on holiday, and is telling him to stay away from her, first by putting him in jail, having his men plant something on him.
The acting was good.
The soundtrack was good. I liked the old songs played in the movie, especially the song in the ending credits, I still like to this day, 'The first time ever I saw your face'.
Viewer discretion is advised, as the movie contains nudity.
Rating : Worth a watch!
