In 1985 Charlie plays “Spin the bottle” merged with “7 minutes in heaven” with his friends, and ends up in the closet with a goth girl who is in love with him. Because she is aggressive, and tries to do to him what she read in her mother’s Cosmopolitan magazine, she scares him, and she hexes him to never be happy, and for every girl he dates, to find love with the guy after him.

In present day, Charlie dates a beautiful girl who is willing do get caught doing the nasty on the beach with him. She tells him she loves him, but he says “Thank You”, upsetting her, and she leaves him.

 

Charlie goes to the wedding of his ex girlfriend, who tied the knot 6 months after she stopped dating him.

Charlie meets Cam at the wedding, who is seated at the same table he is at, and he likes her.

Cam seems to be a menace to be around, as the time she spent at the wedding, she walked into the waiter, and broke the table they sat at, the hot wax of the candle pouring on Charlie’s lap.

Despite all this, Charlie still wants to date her.

Although she seems to like him too, Cam refuses to date him, as she knows his reputation, as 3 of her friends dated him.

Speaking of Charlie’s reputation, it precedes him, as the bride called him her lucky charm, finding her true love / husband, after him. So, the next time he goes to his office (he’s a dentist), the waiting room is full of women who want to be with him so they could find “the one”. The woman he was at the beach with,is getting married, and he has 14 new messages from women who want to be with him so they could find “the one”.

Cam works at Aqua World in the penguin habitat (she is obsessed with penguins) and one day she slips off the ice, and chips her tooth. She calls Charlie, and he fixes it. Although she accidentally stabbed him and electrocuted him, among other things, he still wants to date her.

Because Cam won’t date him, he starts going out with all the women who only want to sleep with him in order to find the love of their life right after, at his vulgar friend’s suggestion. He does it until he gets sick of it because the women don’t want him, they just sleep with him to get to “the one”.

Seeing penguins on tv, he goes to see Cam.

Cam finally agrees to go out with him, and when she does, he’s afraid to sleep with her, because he’s falling in love with her and doesn’t want to lose her.

I enjoyed the movie once it stopped with the vulgar content, and I think that without it it could have been a really good romantic comedy.

Chuck is pretty shallow until he meets Cam and is sick of the womanizer life he’s been living until then. I liked how obsessed he got with her, afraid he’d lose her, doing romantic things for her, and taking it slow.

His friend is pretty vulgar and disgusting.

Cam was funny, and her being an accident prone looked natural, not forced.I found myself sighing or laughing embarrassed whenever she did something awkward.

The acting was good.

The score was good.

The movie holds a metascore of 19 with a user score of 4.5 on Metacritic, and a 5% tomatometer against a 57% popcorn meter on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie grossed almost 60 million dollars against a budget of 25 million dollars.

The movie was nominated for 2 Razzie Awards, for Worst Actress for Jessica Alba, and Worst Screen Couple.
