Lauren is one of the best Manhattan District Attorneys in New York. While at a press conference about her latest case, she finds out her father just died.
When reading the last will and testament, we find out he left 20 million dollars to her brother, and only one million to her, as he never liked her much (although her mother and brother keep on saying he did).
Her brother wants to give her half of what he left him, but she refuses.
The family lawyer talks to her in private, and gives her an envelope, which was for her eyes only. In the envelope there's a videotape and a key, but her father doesn't say much, just that the truth must stay buried.
Lauren goes to the underground bunker her father told her about in the video, and finds a chained man.
She runs away, but when she comes back, and talks to him, he says his name is Morgan.
Lauren takes his finger prints, and asks her friend and detective to find out who they belong to. Because it takes too long, she starts believing what Morgan says, as he tells her some of her father's secrets (his father used him as his confessor) which prove to be correct, like, he had a mistress, who also had his son, and he also told her about a body they buried, which Morgan says is the reason he was imprisoned by his father, as he didn't want to go to jail, and lose leading the life he did in the end.
All this turns Lauren's life upside down, as she starts lying to her husband about what she does, misses her daughter's school play, trying to figure out what to do, if to release the man or call the police, as this could hurt the family image, her brother being a politician on his campaign to be reelected.
I personally enjoyed the movie, it was very well done, very stylish. Speaking of stylish, our lead was very stylish too. The places where they filmed were beautiful, their house was beautiful.
That being said, the movie has some serious plot holes, like, why wouldn't you tell your daughter the truth, why let her be told by the one you imprisoned, when he could lie?! He only told her to keep that man there, like he did, without telling her why was he in there, what did he do! This is stupid!
Also, imagine the money he spent building all that, just to keep him there! Ridiculous!
SPOILER her father died trying to inject the man with a p0ison, and the man injected him! Why didn't he just p0ison his food if he wanted him dead?!
The actors were good, I think the best were our two leads, especially Simon Pegg who plays the chained man.
The soundtrack matched what the lead was going through, it really captured her state of mind.
The movie received negative reviews, and grossed almost 305.000 dollars at the box office due to its release coinciding with the world shutting down .
The movie is for free on Kanopy, Hoopla, Plex; free with ads on PlutoTv; 30 days free on Prime Video, Prime Video with Ads; and for rent / sale on Amazon, AppleTv, Fandango at Home.
Rating : Worth a watch !
