Ashley is a very lucky girl. She is so lucky that everything always works in her favor and always gets what she wants. One morning, because her boss with her employees are stuck in the elevator, Ashley gets the chance to pitch her idea to the record label owner they had a meeting with. And he loves it. Her boss promotes Ashley.

Opposite to her, Jake is the unluckiest man alive, as anything bad that could happen, happens to him. Jake is trying to see the same record label owner to sign the band he is producing and managing. Not only that he fails, but he ends up in jail due to a ridiculous series of unfortunate events.

Ashley gets a date with a rich man, and is trying to find a date for her boss. She finds it in her neighbour. And gets to wear Sarah Jessica Parker’s dress, as it gets delivered to her address.

Jake tries to get the band he manages signed to a record label, and when some record executives come to hear them play, he messes with the wires and messes their audition.

Ashley prepares the masked party, and at the party her boss hits it off with her neighbour.

Hearing the record executive, Damon Philips, he’s been trying to talk to, is going to be at this party, Jake lies he’s one of the dancers, trying to get in, puts on their clothes and goes looking for him. He ends up asking Ashley for a dance, and they end up kissing.

From that moment, they switch their luck. Ashley becomes terribly unlucky, her neighbour ending up being an escort, the police come and take her, her boss and neighbour to the station, where she ends up spending the night.

Jake ends up saving Damon Philips’s life while trying to talk to him, and the man agrees to hear his band.

Damon likes the band and signs them to his record label, giving them a penthouse.

The trouble just started for Ashley, as when she finally gets out of jail, she finds out her place is flooded, and has mold among many other problems, to the point they tear it down, and she has to stay with her friends.

Things don’t run smooth at their place either, as she creates problems, like leaving them and the entire block without electricity.

She starts thinking back, to when all this started happening, and she realizes it was after she kissed the masked stranger. She gets the list of all the dancers, tracks them down, and kisses them all, to get her luck back.

After another night in jail, because she fell into the weird work of art of her rich boyfriend’s mother, Ashley goes to a restaurant to have breakfast, but she has no money, and people treat her bad. Jake happens to be there and watch it all unfold, so he takes pity on her, as he sees in her his old self, and decides to help her. He gives her his sandwich, his old job at the bowling alley as her boss fired her after the incident, and his old backpack with all the things he needed for the bad things he was going through.

They become friends, and meeting the band, Ashley helps one of her friends who’s a song writer, by giving her an audition with the band, who like her song.

Getting closer to Jake, and kissing him, she gets her luck back, and realizes it was him she kissed and lost her luck to.

Will Ashley just walk away after getting her luck back, or will she stay with Jake?

I personally enjoyed the movie. Ashley doesn’t think she’s lucky until she runs out of luck. She takes everything that happens to her for granted, thinking it’s just positive thinking, and feels like she only thinks about herself, until the tables turn. She gets to grow as a character, thinking about other people, helping her friends, and Jake.

Jake, on the other hand, is managing the band for free, and has a very close relationship with his very young cousin, that he helps whenever he can.

“Just my luck” comes from something Ashley says to the fortune teller invited to the party she thinks jinxed her.

The acting was good.

The score is mostly McFly’s songs, who at the time the movie was made was a famous British pop-rock band.

The movie holds a 5.5 rating on IMDB and a 6.2 user score on Metacritic.

Cinema Score audiences graded the movie a B.

The movie made a little over 38 million dollars against a budget of 28 million dollars, being a flop.
